It's likely you'll hold Chester site Tarvin Sands dear to your heart – especially the keen fishers among you. The site is part of Tarvin Sands Fishery, where there's also an information hut, a gift shop, picnic areas, gardens and other animals including kingfishers, water voles and greylag geese. Three coarse fishing lakes are on the site, crammed with 30lb fish including carp, bream, roach, tench, chub, perch and rudd. Tarvin Sands is set over 25 acres of Cheshire countryside, with loads of room for kids to play and run around. It has an excellently-kept facilities block with free hot showers and toilets, a washing-up hut and a parent and baby washroom.

Primitive grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: Very quiet site with very nice fishing ponds to walk around and the village of Tarvin is a short walk from (albeit alongside a busy road) the campsite.

Recent new owner seemed very nice and is looking to bring new life into site.

Primitive grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: Peaceful, had the place to ourselves. Star gazing was awesome. The wild cats pottering about. The geese and ducks on the fishing pond. The older gentlemen working through the day, pleasant chap.

Disliked: Toilets had no lights, or hot water. Think it may have been beginning of opening, so wasn’t too much bother.

Primitive grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: the very far end of the campsite was clean and green.the toilet was ok.

Disliked: The campsite on arrival looked like a junk yard. we couldn't use the hardstanding pitch as it was next to lots of mess and the weeds had overgrown and there was an old mouldy caravan next to it. There was no blue marked water Tap for drinking water. were ok so far, we found an outdoor tap. the road noise is a bit of an issue but if the place was cleaned up it would make it a functional sight.

Camping pod (two person)

Liked: Location and friendliness of staff.

Disliked: It is very tired! Needs a good cleaner and some bits sorting and it could be so nice. Fix the window too as it will not shut.

Local attractions

Tarvin Sands has heaps of room on site to wander around, picnic in and wildlife watch, but if you're here to also see a bit of Cheshire and the northwest, you'll find it's in handy locale for getting out and about. Liverpool, Manchester and north Wales are all within a short drive. It's a smashing site for kids too, as it's close to famed family attractions like Chester Zoo as well as the kid-friendly fare in nearby Chester: try the Chester ghost hunter trail, the miniature railway at Grosvenor Park and the pools and flumes at Northgate Arena. The Tarvin Sands team also reckons you should take a look at Blakemere Craft village, the farm animals, play areas and tasty treats of Chester's The Ice Cream Farm, and family adventure play park the Crocky Trail.
