Fully licenced on-site bar

General

  • Spacious site between the Yorkshire Dales and Forest of Bowland
  • Within half an hour of the Three Peaks, Malham Cove and Gisburn Forest
  • Lockable bike store and bike wash; fully-licensed bar

Got a bike? Get on it and pedal over to Dalesbridge, a cycle-friendly site between the Yorkshire Dales and the Forest of Bowland.

Here on this roomy and tree-filled site a lockable bike store awaits for your valued two-wheeled vehicles, as well as a cycle wash area so you can hose the mud off after long days up hill and down dale. The site team is steeped in local knowledge too when it comes to Dales trails and Bowland bike paths and this peaceful setting is all about half an hour’s drive from the Gisburn Forest, where mountain bikers of all ages, fitness and nerve can pedal a route to suit.

Whether you’ve been making white-knuckle rides down the slopes, trying to bag the Three Peaks in 12 hours or settling down for the scenery on the Settle-Carlisle railway, you’ll have a quiet and welcoming base to come back to at Dalesbridge. There’s ample room, staff who are happy to help, and most importantly for mountain roamers returning with a thirst, a fully licensed bar open at certain times.

If you’ve returned hungry as well, you’re welcome to barbecue bangers and everything else on site, and shops and supermarkets are 10 minutes’ drive away in Settle.

Very warm welcome, gorgeous views, plenty of showers and toilets clean site. Pitches nice and flat!

    Disliked:

Disappointing to see that someone had unplugged our electrics and had left some large sticks next to the caravan when we left it to go out. We checked the windows and no damage was done apart from fridge had gone warm but did leave us feeling uneasy. Make sure you have mosquito candles or similar.

Nice flat field. Easy to get to and a laid-back campsite. All facilities on site and a coop a couple of miles away. Nice and quiet and safe for the children to play

    Disliked:

The toilet/shower facilities let the site down. You would not want to shower there and there is nothing to dry your hands after being to the toilet.

Good site with flat spacious pitches, showers could be better 07/15/2019

Friendly helpful staff, spacious pitches with a central grass area for kids to play. No lumpy bumpy areas, nice and flat. Our stay was lovely and peaceful.

    Disliked:

Toilets and showers are plentiful but poor. The shower is a push button which lasts 3 seconds so you need to keep one hand on the button. There is no temperature control and they are narrow making it very difficult to shower small children. A few wall hooks but nowhere to place toiletries, clean clothes etc other than on the toilet. No paper towels or hand drier to use after washing hands when using the loo so the door handles were always wet and gross.

Directions

Dalesbridge campsite is just off the main A65 road between Ingleton and Settle. Do not drive into Austwick.
If travelling from the Settle direction the site is past the Austwick sign on the lefthand side of the road: turn into the entrance directly before the Dalesbridge sign. If travelling from Ingleton the site is just past the second turning into the village of Austwick; turn right after the crossroads.

Satnav: please note that our entrance is directly off the A65: do not turn up Orcaber Lane!

Local attractions

The Three Peaks of Whernside, Ingleborough and Pen-y-ghent are all reachable within half an hour's drive of the site, so it's your choice whether you hoof it up them in a single day, or take your time, savouring views and devouring hard-earned picnics on top.

Starting 10 minutes away, the walk to Ingleton Falls is gentle but no less rewarding, and even though you’re heading deep down instead of up, the caverns and wild rock formations of Whitescar and Ingleborough caves make for unmissable wanders.

For walks with wildlife, make the half-hour trip to Malham Cove, where a pair of nesting peregrine falcons can be spotted in the summer months, alongside resident populations of jackdaws and housemartins. You can climb the massive amphitheatre cliffs of the cove, or follow trails up and around taking in the glacial Malham Tarn and Janet’s Foss waterfall.

To see some wildlife at closer quarters, the Settle Falconry Centre (five minutes' drive) has daily displays of flying and feeding and if you feel you’d like to soar through the skies, the Ribble Viaduct section of the Settle-Carlisle Railway makes a fair imitation.

If all this outdoor, high altitude stuff has made you peckish, head over to the Wensleydale Creamery (40 minutes) to learn how the famed crumbly cheese is made… and then sample some, but of course.

Must see

  • Lancaster Castle (18.2 miles)
  • Beacon Fell Country Park (19.5 miles)
  • Levens Hall & Gardens (19.8 miles)

National Trust

  • Malham Tarn Estate (7.7 miles)
  • Sizergh Castle and Garden (20.6 miles)
