  • Play area, games room and indoor pool; restaurant and bar; launderette
Whether you’re after a hiking holiday, a spot of birdwatching or bracing good times at the seaside, coastal North Yorkshire always delivers. And at Spring Willows Caravan Park, you’re well placed for all these activities – and more besides. This family- and dog-friendly site sits close to the junction of the A64, which takes you straight into Scarborough (20 minutes’ drive), and the A1039, which you can follow all the way to Filey (15 minutes). From there, you can choose to spend a day at sandy, expansive Filey Beach, or head to Filey Brigg, a narrow, ragged promontory where there are reliable sightings of migratory and breeding birds. So that’s the beaches and birdwatching taken care of. As for the hiking, Filey Brigg marks the end (or the start) of the Yorkshire Wolds Way, a long-distance route crossing spectacular valleys, woodland and chalk hills. On site, grass pitches come with splendid views of the surrounding fields, and facilities include an indoor pool, a gym, a games room and a fenced-off children’s play area with climbing structures. If you’re into experimenting with your G&Ts, the S Club Bar and Restaurant has a pretty decent selection of gins. (How decent? Well, you might find it hard to work your way through the entire menu during your stay here…) If you fancy sipping your drink under a canopy of stars, the outdoor seating area has heat lamps and warm throws. A modern and pristine toilet block with hot-water showers (plus facilities for disabled guests), a washing-up area and a launderette complete the picture.

Liked The swimming pool sauna and steam room were good
The staff were polite and friendly

Disliked The hot tub water needed cleaning as it was a murky yellow colour
The pitch was on quite steep slope so the motorhome didn’t feel very stable .
There was no water or electricity from 7pm until we left the following morning as there was a fire in the pool area ?? Nobody came around to see us about this to give any information
The pub and restaurant not open in a Monday and Tuesday

Liked Remote
Nice dog walk
Nice bar
Showers decent

Disliked Touring - tent pitch very sloped so awning didn’t fit right. Some had to buy wood chocks.
There was a fire on site in main building which subsequently caused the site to have no water or electric. Nobody came up to the site to let people know what was going on so we waited until the following day with no water or elec no showers etc and again nobody came. A camper had been to the office and he got told it was ongoing and they will give refunds obviously. So we packed up and drove off. On passing the reception the staff were sat outside making note who left and apologising and saying send details and they’ll pay us back as we had been there just 2 nights. We have contacted them now 5 times and they have seen our correspondence but we have been ignored each time. This is not very professional. We went with our family hoping for a nice week but had upheaval of having to empty awning take it back down and re pack everything and the hassle of trying to find somewhere else to move to and repeat the whole farce again setting it up.

Liked The shower / toilet facilities were clean / accessible. Use of pool included in price was good. Food was nice in the restaurant.

Disliked Touring pitches were very uneven - no flat ground to set up and no structure to the pitches. No family changing areas in the swimming pool changing rooms which made it difficult with a young baby. The park was not open until 10am and closed at 4pm - no good on the lighter summer nights when you have children wanting to play early evening. No wifi on the touring pitches, only available in the pub / reception area.

Liked Fantastic campsite! Was initially allocated a pitch with a huge divet in the ground which was completely unsuitable to set a tent up on, however, the lady on reception was so helpful and kindly let us pitch up slightly further along on a much more level pitch within 20 minutes of us arriving. Dog walking area was amazing, site was really well kept and in a lovely area. Views were gorgeous. Will 100% return!!

Liked Friendly and super helpful staff, really accommodating and nothing was too much trouble for them. We had a problem with our power, which turned out to be our plug and the maintenance guy took it away and fixed it for us. Legend! Also the guy in the bar was great, something I fancied wasn't on the menu, but he kindly made it for me anyway! Location was good. Short drive to Filey and not far from Scarborough either. Some nice little villages close by with nice pubs and good food too. I'd certainly come back here, and would recommend.

Disliked Some bits were in need of a refresh as were a bit run down, but I overall a decent place to stay.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Clean facilities, great location, friendly helpful staff, brilliant pool, steam room etc, spacious pitches with a nice view, bar/restaurant/play area on site, great place all round. Nice well maintained dog paths and woodland walks on the doorstep too.

Disliked There's a bit of background road noise but it makes it dead easy to get to and from the site so worth it for us. Not a huge number of showers/toilets if the campsite was full but fine when we were there, plus there's more facilities in the club house.

Local attractions

Build a day out around the kids by taking them to Playdale Farm Park (10 minutes’ drive), where they can feed alpacas, handle guinea pigs or have a go at ziplining. Then head to the North Yorkshire Water Park (15 minutes), for climbing, bouncing and sliding on the inflatable adventure course. With its chequered floor and elegant colonnade framing views of the sea, the Sun Court at the Scarborough Spa (20 minutes) is a great spot for a drink, maybe accompanied by music from a live orchestra. A stroll along South Bay Beach takes you to a pretty marina lined with restaurants and the Luna Park theme park. A chalk outcrop jutting into the North Sea, Flamborough Outer Headlands Nature Reserve (half an hour) is a popular spot for birdwatching. The coastline around here is pretty spectacular, with tall cliffs and rock formations like the Drinking Dinosaur, where seals come for a rest.
