  • Well maintained peaceful park
  • Playdale Farm Park 10 minutes’ drive; Scarborough 20 minutes
  • Play area, games room and indoor pool; restaurant and bar; launderette
Whether you’re after a hiking holiday, a spot of birdwatching or bracing good times at the seaside, coastal North Yorkshire always delivers. And at Spring Willows Caravan Park, you’re well placed for all these activities – and more besides. This family- and dog-friendly site sits close to the junction of the A64, which takes you straight into Scarborough (20 minutes’ drive), and the A1039, which you can follow all the way to Filey (15 minutes). From there, you can choose to spend a day at sandy, expansive Filey Beach, or head to Filey Brigg, a narrow, ragged promontory where there are reliable sightings of migratory and breeding birds. So that’s the beaches and birdwatching taken care of. As for the hiking, Filey Brigg marks the end (or the start) of the Yorkshire Wolds Way, a long-distance route crossing spectacular valleys, woodland and chalk hills. On site, grass pitches come with splendid views of the surrounding fields, and facilities include an indoor pool, a gym, a games room and a fenced-off children’s play area with climbing structures. If you’re into experimenting with your G&Ts, the S Club Bar and Restaurant has a pretty decent selection of gins. (How decent? Well, you might find it hard to work your way through the entire menu during your stay here…) If you fancy sipping your drink under a canopy of stars, the outdoor seating area has heat lamps and warm throws. A modern and pristine toilet block with hot-water showers (plus facilities for disabled guests), a washing-up area and a launderette complete the picture.

What customers say

Awesome views, staff & pool. Spacious spots, great for dog walks. Some touring spots are sloped. Toilets/showers need a spruce up, some had cleanliness worries. Bar/food hours can be limited.

Liked Great campsite, staff were very friendly and welcoming. Good amenities with the onsite bar (with food) and games room. Had planned to use the pool, but didn't get round to it.
Toilet facilities were great, 3 toilet/shower rooms, plus one 'accessible' one. There were also numerous portaloo's in case the campsite got busy. The toilets were kept clean. Due to the slope on the pitch you got fantastic views, (its not like camping on a banking so no risk of rolling down the hill in my sleep).
Some nice areas to walk around within the grounds I think it is classed as dog walking area. Harry Ramsdens fish and chip shop in walking distance.
There were no BBQ's allowed due to the dry weather, but this is totally understandable.

Disliked Nothing - The ground was hard, but that is just due to the dry weather - i just need better pegs.

Liked Staff were fantastic, really clean facilities and the site was great for the kids to run around. Lots of space for big tents and the electric hookups were spaced out well so there was a lot of space available around the tent. Great views from the hillside.

Disliked It’s on an incline, not many flat spaces for tents. Obviously no fault of the site, it’s a hill, but I’d be inclined (no pun intended) to find somewhere less hilly for the next trip.

Liked The staff were really friendly and the site was lovely. The pitches are nice and spacious and you’re not far from a shop. Lovely dog walk at the back of the site and it’s very peaceful.

Disliked Toilet and shower blocks could definitely do with an update although they are cleaned every morning

Liked Great views, clean toilet block and additional portaloos to handle seasonal demand.

Lovely countryside to the rear with woods to explore! Great views across the plain towards Scarborough.

The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Disliked Unfortunately the site had suffered a fire in the facilities building leaving the pool and bar closed. They offered a refund but no reduction in fees if we attended. I think this was poor as we wanted to use the pool with our family.

It is branded as 5 star and luxury but it isn't. Don't get me wrong it's above average as campsites go but disappointing when compared against the advertised features.

Also lots of moaning about rules that aren't clearly sign posted e.g. a non standard no entry sign hidden in the trees.

Liked The dog walking field was the best part.

Disliked Unfortunately our time here wasn't the most enjoyable. The facilities were very dirty each time myself and my family used them. Even though it says online that bbqs are allowed a very rude man came in his truck demanding we put it out. The facilities bar/restaurant were out of action and the children could not use the park because that was also closed and too far away from the camping field. We got pitched far too close to two other families which kept walking through our pitch. Really disappointing stay.

Liked The swimming pool sauna and steam room were good
The staff were polite and friendly

Disliked The hot tub water needed cleaning as it was a murky yellow colour
The pitch was on quite steep slope so the motorhome didn’t feel very stable .
There was no water or electricity from 7pm until we left the following morning as there was a fire in the pool area ?? Nobody came around to see us about this to give any information
The pub and restaurant not open in a Monday and Tuesday

Local attractions

Build a day out around the kids by taking them to Playdale Farm Park (10 minutes’ drive), where they can feed alpacas, handle guinea pigs or have a go at ziplining. Then head to the North Yorkshire Water Park (15 minutes), for climbing, bouncing and sliding on the inflatable adventure course. With its chequered floor and elegant colonnade framing views of the sea, the Sun Court at the Scarborough Spa (20 minutes) is a great spot for a drink, maybe accompanied by music from a live orchestra. A stroll along South Bay Beach takes you to a pretty marina lined with restaurants and the Luna Park theme park. A chalk outcrop jutting into the North Sea, Flamborough Outer Headlands Nature Reserve (half an hour) is a popular spot for birdwatching. The coastline around here is pretty spectacular, with tall cliffs and rock formations like the Drinking Dinosaur, where seals come for a rest.
