  • Well maintained peaceful park
  • Playdale Farm Park 10 minutes’ drive; Scarborough 20 minutes
  • Play area, games room and indoor pool; restaurant and bar; launderette
Whether you’re after a hiking holiday, a spot of birdwatching or bracing good times at the seaside, coastal North Yorkshire always delivers. And at Spring Willows Caravan Park, you’re well placed for all these activities – and more besides. This family- and dog-friendly site sits close to the junction of the A64, which takes you straight into Scarborough (20 minutes’ drive), and the A1039, which you can follow all the way to Filey (15 minutes). From there, you can choose to spend a day at sandy, expansive Filey Beach, or head to Filey Brigg, a narrow, ragged promontory where there are reliable sightings of migratory and breeding birds. So that’s the beaches and birdwatching taken care of. As for the hiking, Filey Brigg marks the end (or the start) of the Yorkshire Wolds Way, a long-distance route crossing spectacular valleys, woodland and chalk hills. On site, grass pitches come with splendid views of the surrounding fields, and facilities include an indoor pool, a gym, a games room and a fenced-off children’s play area with climbing structures. If you’re into experimenting with your G&Ts, the S Club Bar and Restaurant has a pretty decent selection of gins. (How decent? Well, you might find it hard to work your way through the entire menu during your stay here…) If you fancy sipping your drink under a canopy of stars, the outdoor seating area has heat lamps and warm throws. A modern and pristine toilet block with hot-water showers (plus facilities for disabled guests), a washing-up area and a launderette complete the picture.

What customers say

Great location, views, and staff. Enjoy the pool, hot tub, sauna (often bookable privately), bar, and food. Plenty of space and dog-friendly areas. Note: some touring pitches are sloped, and restrooms need updates/cleaning. Bar/restaurant hours can be limited.

Liked The staff and owners were lovely – friendly and very welcoming. The reception and bar/eating area are beautiful, the electric gates are a great touch, and the walks up towards the top of the hill are wonderful with breathtaking views. There is a fantastic range of pool toys for the children. We didn’t eat here, but the menu looked great and very reasonably priced. The information leaflet provided on arrival was also really helpful.

Disliked The bathroom changing rooms didn’t smell great, and the swimming pool was very cloudy with no noticeable smell of chemicals. However, the area around the pool, sauna, etc. was clean. The touring toilet blocks were reasonably clean, especially considering they are next to a grass pitch field, although we have been to sites where the facilities felt more deeply cleaned.

Liked Beautiful, quiet surroundings – perfect for a relaxing stay. There were only around 10 caravans on site, so it felt very peaceful and uncrowded.

The toilets and showers were spotlessly clean, cleaned 2–3 times a day, which was a big plus. The food on site was very good, the bar was great, and all the staff were friendly and helpful. The swimming pool was excellent as well.

Disliked The only downside was that the heating in the toilets was not switched on, which was noticeable during cooler weather.

Liked Only 2 positives unfortunately.
1. The receptionist was very welcoming and informative
2. The pizzas served in the Bar/Restaurant were lovely, and the other food we saw served also looked lovely.

Unfortunately the ground was too boggy for us to explore the wild meadow walk.

Disliked 1. The field is on a steep slope (and this is not mentioned on pitch up). Luckily had levelling blocks.
2. Everything was turned off in the games room.
3. The play park needs an upgrade. The photos on pitch up are misleading.
4. The bar staff would not let us 'see' the pool - so we could decide if wanted to book or not. Just told 'no - you have to book'. We just wanted to look first to see if it was suitable for the kids.

The campsite was chosen for the facilitates, yet the facilities could not be used!
We won't be visiting again, which is a shame, as it could be an amazing touring place.

Liked We stayed at this motorhome site the last weekend of September and absolutely loved the peace and quiet. As a family of three with a lively 4-year-old, we really appreciated the calm atmosphere and safe, open space to unwind. The site itself was well-kept, with plenty of room to relax. One of the highlights was the stunning walk along the cliff tops to Cayton Bay, with breathtaking views and a lovely way to spend the afternoon. The location was perfect, as it was close enough to explore the coast, yet tucked away enough to feel secluded.

Local attractions

Build a day out around the kids by taking them to Playdale Farm Park (10 minutes’ drive), where they can feed alpacas, handle guinea pigs or have a go at ziplining. Then head to the North Yorkshire Water Park (15 minutes), for climbing, bouncing and sliding on the inflatable adventure course. With its chequered floor and elegant colonnade framing views of the sea, the Sun Court at the Scarborough Spa (20 minutes) is a great spot for a drink, maybe accompanied by music from a live orchestra. A stroll along South Bay Beach takes you to a pretty marina lined with restaurants and the Luna Park theme park. A chalk outcrop jutting into the North Sea, Flamborough Outer Headlands Nature Reserve (half an hour) is a popular spot for birdwatching. The coastline around here is pretty spectacular, with tall cliffs and rock formations like the Drinking Dinosaur, where seals come for a rest.
