  • Adults-only site 10 minutes’ drive from Richmond in North Yorkshire
  • Catterick Racecourse five minutes’ drive; Easby Abbey 40 minutes’ walk
  • Dog-friendly pitches; Brompton on Swale pub and shop 10 minutes’ walk
For a quiet adults-only North Yorkshire stay far removed from the hurly burly of everyday life, Millfields Caravan and Camping is a tiny site tucked away in Brompton on Swale, a historic village mentioned in the Domesday Book. Peaceful it certainly is, yet there’s masses to do and see hereabouts. The lively market town of Richmond is 10 minutes’ drive away, with its photogenic Georgian architecture, museums, a castle and lots of entertainment options from cosy inns to chic restaurants. It’s also gateway to adventures in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and any keen racing fans among you have the choice of nine major racecourses: York is an hour’s drive, Wetherby 40 minutes, and Catterick a doddle to get to, being a mere five minutes away. And back on site, the manicured pitches look out over lush countryside (great for walking any dogs you've brought along), with simple facilities including showers and washing-up areas. If you choose to conjure up alfresco feasts on the barbecue, pick up essentials in the handy local shop, or you can always head to the village pub for a pint and a pie (both 10 minutes’ walk).

What customers say

This adults-only, dog-friendly spot earns praise for its tranquility, ample, level sites, and prime location near the A1 and village conveniences. While facilities are deemed basic yet clean and sufficient, some suggest updates, with a new block underway. The 6-amp electrical hook-up occasionally proves limiting. Despite minor roadwork or limited staff interaction, many found it a fantastic stopover or relaxing base and would revisit.

Powered grass campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Lovely small camp site with great size pitches. Dog had a fab time swimming in the river just accross the road. Nice walk to Richmond and caught the bus back. The Crown pub was a short walk away and did a very nice Sunday Lunch and was pet friendly. Plentiful warm water for showers, with basic clean facilities.

Disliked Nothing... but Storm Dave gave us a challenge !

Powered cement/asphalt and grass campsite

Liked Plenty of room on each pitch with your own water tap.
Nice flat pitch with hard standing and grass.
Pub is ten minutes away, dog friendly and food very nice.
Nicely positioned for walks by the river Swale and Richmond is a short drive away.
Site owner very approachable and checked in with us several times to make sure everything was okay.

Disliked Not a dislike, just for info. EHU is 10 amp, caught us out a couple of times but soon got used to managing it by knocking one thing off before switching on another.
Again, not a dislike, for info. Current wash facilities are basic but clean. One toilet and shower are available at the bottom end of the park and there are temporary facilities at the top of the field. Work is currently underway on new shower and toilet block which the owner hopes will be open later this season (2026)

Powered cement/asphalt and grass campsite

Liked Stayed here for two nights. Pitch was huge with water and EHU readily available. Nice and peaceful place, even though it did fill up and the Saturday. There was a toilet and shower which were obviously looked after. We walked into the village and had a fantastic meal the The Crown, and then into Richmond on the second day. That was a lovely walk via Easby Abbey. Fantastic visit!

Disliked There's nothing negative that I would say.

Powered cement/asphalt and grass campsite

Liked The pitches were just the right size. The surrounding area was really lovely with good walks and quiet area.

Disliked The shower was extremely hot, boiling. There wern't any warning signs in the shower and I actually scolded my self after turning it on ,waiting for it to get to the right temperature and getting in for it to change to boiling without touching the controls. The shower itself was very clean and spacious, just with boiling water.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, I'm sorry the shower wasn't up to standard, I will have someone take a look at it. :-)

Local attractions

Stroll directly from your pitch to the spectacular hilltop ruins of 12th-century Easby Abbey (40 minutes’ walk), or have a ramble along the River Swale to Richmond Castle and the pebble beach at Richmond Falls (both roughly an hour). And of course, there are hikes and cycle rides for all levels of ability in the Yorkshire Dales National Park (15 minutes’ drive). Head to Foxglove Covert Local Nature Reserve (20 minutes) for the chance to spy birds of prey and kingfishers in the moorland, meadow and wetland habitats, or if stately houses are on your agenda, combine exploring formal gardens and a lakeside park at Jacobean-era Kiplin Hall (10 minutes) with a tour of the mansion’s richly decorated rooms. The likelihood is you’ll adore fussing over the camels, llamas and ostriches at Mainsgill Farm Shop (15 minutes), where you can also tuck into a tasty cream tea. Should the weather turn against you, book tickets for blockbuster films at The Station or tour Richmond’s restored Georgian Theatre Royal (both 10 minutes), still with its original stage and seating.
