  • Adults-only site 10 minutes’ drive from Richmond in North Yorkshire
  • Catterick Racecourse five minutes’ drive; Easby Abbey 40 minutes’ walk
  • Dog-friendly pitches; Brompton on Swale pub and shop 10 minutes’ walk
For a quiet adults-only North Yorkshire stay far removed from the hurly burly of everyday life, Millfields Caravan and Camping is a tiny site tucked away in Brompton on Swale, a historic village mentioned in the Domesday Book. Peaceful it certainly is, yet there’s masses to do and see hereabouts. The lively market town of Richmond is 10 minutes’ drive away, with its photogenic Georgian architecture, museums, a castle and lots of entertainment options from cosy inns to chic restaurants. It’s also gateway to adventures in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and any keen racing fans among you have the choice of nine major racecourses: York is an hour’s drive, Wetherby 40 minutes, and Catterick a doddle to get to, being a mere five minutes away. And back on site, the manicured pitches look out over lush countryside (great for walking any dogs you've brought along), with simple facilities including showers and washing-up areas. If you choose to conjure up alfresco feasts on the barbecue, pick up essentials in the handy local shop, or you can always head to the village pub for a pint and a pie (both 10 minutes’ walk).

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked Just how I like a campsite; lovely and quiet. The shower/ toilet was super clean and plenty of warm water. The radiator in there was much appreciated. Good news that you have a new toilet block coming, which will hopefully mean a few more showers. The pitches are flat and spacious, with the sites marked out with numbers ( hence everyone gets a decent space.
The site is in a great location, close to Richmond and the Dales, a 10 minute walk into the village where we had a decent meal and only 5 minutes off the A1 to easy to get to. We have an electric car so it was also handy that the Scotch Corner Tesla Supercharger is only 10 minutes drive away.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked I loved how quiet it was!
I had to recharge my phone and I used my car and left the ignition on and ended up with a dead battery. I sent an email to the site owner,Amanda explaining my problem . A little while later, Amanda came with jumps leads and I was back up and running in no time. Amanda was very kind and friendly.

Liked Brilliant site!! This was are first trip away in the caravan and we wanted somewhere quite and peaceful as it was also are dogs first time away and we were unsure as to how she was going to be. We feel like we hit the jackpot with this site, it was quite, peaceful and in a perfect location for exploring villages around. The pitches are very big. We were on pitch 10 and used the toilet block closest to us and there was 1 shower and 2 toilets they were very clean (cleaned very day) and perfect size for the site. Pub and village shop (that has everything you may need and more in) just a 10 minute walk away or bigger supermarkets 5 minute drive away in Richmond. This is a self check in site and has a big board map on your way in, it’s very clear and you can find your pitch no problem. Lovely little site that we would book again and recommend to others too.

Local attractions

Stroll directly from your pitch to the spectacular hilltop ruins of 12th-century Easby Abbey (40 minutes’ walk), or have a ramble along the River Swale to Richmond Castle and the pebble beach at Richmond Falls (both roughly an hour). And of course, there are hikes and cycle rides for all levels of ability in the Yorkshire Dales National Park (15 minutes’ drive). Head to Foxglove Covert Local Nature Reserve (20 minutes) for the chance to spy birds of prey and kingfishers in the moorland, meadow and wetland habitats, or if stately houses are on your agenda, combine exploring formal gardens and a lakeside park at Jacobean-era Kiplin Hall (10 minutes) with a tour of the mansion’s richly decorated rooms. The likelihood is you’ll adore fussing over the camels, llamas and ostriches at Mainsgill Farm Shop (15 minutes), where you can also tuck into a tasty cream tea. Should the weather turn against you, book tickets for blockbuster films at The Station or tour Richmond’s restored Georgian Theatre Royal (both 10 minutes), still with its original stage and seating.
