  • Family-friendly woodland park overlooking Dunwich Beach in Suffolk
  • RSPB Minsmere 10 minutes’ drive and Southwold 20 minutes
  • Terrace restaurant and bar; playground and private steps to the beach
Set on a spacious and leafy 30-acre site edging the sea just outside Dunwich, Cliff House Holiday Park puts its guests in pole position for days of adventure exploring Suffolk, its villages and coastline. Book your stay for winter and get cosy around your campfire, in spring to see the daffodils or summer to enjoy days on Dunwich Beach, just a few minutes’ walk away. Wherever time of year you’re there, keep your eyes peeled when you’re wandering about the tree-shaded park and you may spot red deer, rare birds and badgers; rabbits, squirrels and muntjacs are a common sight too. The property is surrounded by untamed heath and woodland, and National Trust walking routes are available directly from the pitches. Your four-legged chums are given a warm welcome here too – there are always treats on hand and the beach is handily dog-friendly all year round. Facilities include a communal barbecue and the 12 Lost Churches bar and restaurant serving food and drinks from local suppliers; there’s a playground within sight of the bar terrace so parents can keep watch over their offspring as they play. You also have access to a shop, well-maintained shower blocks, washing-up sinks and a launderette.

Liked Location ok the cliff top, amazing views, big park but doesn’t feel it with so many tucked away areas, lots of nature, very peaceful, lovely staff - everyone was helpful and friendly

Disliked No signal but that could also be a good thing!

Liked The shower/toilet blocks were immaculate and heated. The onsite club house served fabulous food and the bar/pub had a lovely atmosphere. Our pitch was luckily in the 'quieter' area, as some parts were very noisy, mainly with larger famies/children but everyone seemed to be having fun. The staff were the star prize, friendly, happy and nothing was too much trouble. I nearly forgot, steps onsite down to one of the best beaches I've been on, home and abroad.

Disliked The fact that in the children's play area, there were adults and children walking around with glasses and glass bottles - this is an accident waiting to happen with bare foot toddlers everywhere - signage was there but clearly ignored.

Powered grass and gravel campsite

Liked Good discovery!

A lovely site mixed with tents, camper vans, statics and lodges. Very peaceful. From our pitch, access to the steps down to the beach was approx. 200m. Although you can eat in the bar/restaurant on site, we chose to walk 1.5 miles along the beach to the Ship Inn in Dunwich.

We'll definitely be back to stay at some point in the near future

Disliked A 10:00 a.m. checkout is a little too early (for us at least). Any site that has access only from 14:00 (like this one), should have check out between 11:00 and 12:00...that still leaves two hours before new arrivals.

Powered grass and gravel travel trailer campsite

Liked Helpful warden who noticed me arriving after reception was closed. Guided me to right pitch. Access by steps to amazing beach. miles long. sandy, in both directions and mostly me and my dog had it entirely to ourselves. Loved the layout, generous pitches amongst the glades and trees. Clean, warm, generous sized facilities.

Local attractions

Cute-as-a-picture seaside towns include Southwold (20 minutes’ drive), where you can tour Adnams Brewery and the lighthouse, browse smart shops and eat fish and chips on the pier; Aldeburgh (25 minutes) is well-known for tours of the arts and crafts Red House, former home of composer Benjamin Britten, and Suffolk-born Maggi Hambling’s vast ‘Scallop’ sculpture on the beach. Still on the coast, Thorpeness (25 minutes) is set around the Meare boating lake; it is also gateway to the Suffolk & Essex Coast & Heaths National Landscape, criss-crossed with wildlife walks and cycle rides. If you’d rather not stray so far from base camp, RSPB Minsmere (10 minutes) is another great day out for wildlife lovers, with family-friendly opportunities to take part in pond dipping and den building. There are also family-centric activities like felting and archaeology talks at Dunwich Museum (five minutes), where you can learn about the ‘Lost City’ – Dunwich was once a thriving medieval port that slowly slipped into the sea due to erosion and storm surges.
