One of the lakes

  • Dog-friendly Norfolk site with relaxing fishing lakes and a woodland
  • Half an hour’s drive from Thetford Forest’s Go Ape and High Lodge
  • Catfish, carp, tench, silverfish and more over five well-stocked lakes
Anglers and adventurers, get ready, because Fendicks Fishery is a stunning Norfolk site with five well-stocked fishing lakes and a mature woodland, just half an hour’s drive from Thetford Forest. Out there, there’s plenty of adventuring to be done, with High Lodge and its Go Ape centre as a good starting point. There's a well-balanced atmosphere at this site, as the team have worked hard over the years to manage and landscape the grounds so that there’s a good combination of nature and fishing. Anglers have access to five lakes with a variety of fish up for grabs, including catfish (weighing in at over 95 lbs), carp, tench, silverfish and more. With 32 acres of mature woodland surrounding the lake, peaceful and scenic are two words that accurately Fendicks Fishery. Plus, there’s a splendid set-up in terms of facilities, with a toilet and shower block that’s kept toasty by underfloor heating, a washing-up area, washing machines, information room, Elsan points and the reception area. All the grassy pitches have access to electric hook-up (how handy). When you’re not unwinding around the acres of space around this well-kept site or spending an afternoon fishing, you could take off onto the miles of paths around Thetford Forest or head further out onto the Norfolk coast, which will take you around an hour’s drive or just over.

What customers say

Friendly staff, clean grounds, and scenic lakeside spots get high marks at Fendicks Fishery. Guests love the on-site dining for good value food. Fishing's a major draw, with stocked lakes for all levels. Some note occasional noise and inconsistent shower temps, but the overall vibe is relaxing.

BumbleBee shepherd's hut

Liked We stayed here as a family of four—two adults, two children—and our little Frenchie. The campsite itself is beautiful, and we stayed in the Bumble Bee Shepherd’s Hut, which was lovely. It was well-equipped with a microwave, kettle, fridge, and linen, and there was even a small picnic bench right outside, which was a nice touch.
From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel very welcome. The staff on site are all friendly and helpful. A special mention goes to “Hot Tub Tom” (as he introduced himself), who really made our children’s stay extra special. He kindly let them pick fruit from the trees on site, which they absolutely loved. He also checked in on us regularly and quickly resolved a small issue we encountered on the first night.
The restaurant and café on site are wonderful, with a great atmosphere and very welcoming staff. Susan (I believe that was her name) went above and beyond to make sure we were happy, and she even treated our Frenchie to plenty of treats, which was a lovely gesture.
The campsite offers stunning views and plenty of beautiful walks to enjoy. We would definitely stay here again, although perhaps not as a family of four next time.

Disliked I do feel it’s important to mention that, although we had a lovely stay overall, the fishing experience was a little let down with. We travelled three hours, partly based on the positive things we had heard about the fishing, so this was disappointing.
There are clear rules displayed on arrival stating that children must be supervised at all times. However, at the lake we fished, there were several children without any adult supervision. This led to quite a bit of disruption lines being cast across other people’s swims, shouting across the lake, and later in the evening, groups playing around with head torches, which took away from what should have been a peaceful fishing environment.
There also didn’t appear to be any fishing bailiffs to check whether individuals had valid rod licences or had officially booked onto the lake.
This was particularly frustrating on the first night of our trip. We did speak to Tom (“Hot Tub Tom”), who reassured us the issue would be addressed, and to his credit, things did improve afterwards.
I’m absolutely supportive of children enjoying fishing, but when there are clear rules in place, they should be followed. At times, it felt like a bit of a free-for-all, which was disappointing given our expectations.

Local attractions

Head to High Lodge (half an hour’s drive) to kickstart your tour of Thetford Forest. There are all sorts of ways to become one with the forest, from hiring out a Segway, taking an archery lesson or finding your zen with forest yoga. Go Ape Thetford (half an hour) will require a little bravery and some acrobatic skills for its treetop courses and zipwires, but on the ground, there are three cycling trails and four footpaths to follow from High Lodge. If you’re looking to find some places where the kids are likely to be entertained, Banham Zoo (35 minutes) is one such place, as are Melsop Farm Park (35 minutes) and Church Farm Stow Bardolph (15 minutes), two farm parks with a variety of animals and farm-style activities. A day at the coast is also possible from this site… just pick your seafront of choice. Perhaps Hunstanton (55 minutes) and Cromer (an hour and 20 minutes) to the north, or Great Yarmouth (an hour and 10 minutes) to the east? Towards the coast is Bressingham Steam & Gardens (40 minutes), a nice choice to see working steam locomotives in the flesh.
