  • Well-kept family site in the Peak District National Park’s Hope Valley
  • Pennine Way start 15 minutes’ drive; Chatsworth House half an hour
  • Peaceful tree-shaded pitches with modern facilities
Set in Derbyshire’s Peak District National Park, Hope Valley Holidays has an excellent location between the villages of Hope and Bamford in the lush Hope Valley, with easy access to the Castleton caves and climbing at Mam Tor, Stanage Edge and Kinder Scout all within 25 minutes’ drive. The site has pitches across several peaceful and tree-lined fields, with oh-so-smart heated shower and washroom facilities. The owners have put the natural environment at the centre of everything they do; there are wildflower borders around every field, and the mature woodland surrounding the site is awash with wildflowers in spring and summer. Numerous birds and animals visit too, and a quiet hour spent on your pitch may well reveal the wildlife that shares your space. Barbecues are welcome on the grassy pitches, but those who fancy sampling the Derbyshire gourmet scene can head to a pub about five minutes’ away on foot. Easy meals? A takeaway in Hope (25 minutes’ walk) will also deliver to your pitch. There are numerous cafés, bars and restaurants in postcard-pretty Hathersage (five minutes’ drive), and a well-known fine-dining pub around 10 minutes away by car. A trainline is at the back of the site.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Stayed for 1 night with a view to running early next morning. Campsite really well maintained, toilets sparkling clean. The games room “hut” equipped with fridges/freezers was a massive win. Owners very friendly - they even allowed me to move my booking to the week after due to a last-minute family issue that popped up. I returned late from my run but the owners were kind enough to not rush to boot me out at bang-on 11am.
Overall really loved my stay, thank you so much for your kindness!
One more thing, Bike & Boot is a lovely pub/restaurant a 5 minute walk down the road - recommended!

Disliked Loud trains passing so may need earplugs :)

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Clean facilities and little extras made it stand out such as good quality toilet roll, washing up liquid and bowls. The bonus of the games room equipped with kettle, fridges and freezers makes this campsite stand out amongst the rest. I would certainly not hesitate in returning and the owners were lovely and friendly.

Disliked Bit of a trek to the toilets would be my only dislike and the noise of the train, but wouldn’t let it put me off.

From the manager: Thanks for the great review Ruth!

We'll have the second shower/toilet block open in a few months.... still waiting on the insurance company to finish the remedial work in that building...

We look forward to seeing you again!

Liked Location.
Restrooms are clean as are toilets.
Washing area also clean

Disliked Cost of non electric pitch
The noise from the main line railway which is right next to site.
Busy main road, on the other side, so surrounded by noise.
Ground is rough

From the manager: Well Peter, its obvious that your review is not reflective of reality, proven by the 10/10 reviews book-ending you!

We see that the last campsite you reviewed you gave a 1/10 to….(yes a 1!) There you didn’t like the wildlife (despite them being in a conservation park), didn’t like that you couldn’t bypass their barrier entry system (that we expect is there for safety and security), didn’t like that they tried to engage in general conversation with you, didn’t like that the ground in June was hard....and you didn’t like their costs (which, just like us, are representative of the season and other sites in the area)

So the 4/10 that you’ve given us seems like a win!

Here you didn’t like that the ground is ‘rough’…..We are in a heat wave, the ground and grass here is actually doing very well. Bear in mind that there are wild fires just miles from us. You won’t find cushioned velvet grass fields anywhere in the UK, or even Europe right now.

You didn't like that we are near a road and train line, these being very visible on the maps and key for accessing not only the site, but the Hope Valley itself, we've even got a bus stop! (everywhere around here is near to a road or the train line, and we have extensive barrier vegetation on the site)

You didn’t like our costs (you knew the price when you booked), but happy to use more space than was allocated to you plus the parking, showers, fridges, freezers, games hut and phone charing points….all included in the pitch price.

Perhaps camping just isn’t for you.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked This is a beautiful campsite, with large pitches, and lots of space for the kids to play safely.
There's good transport access and near to some lovely locations and places to visit.
We loved that we had a shelf of the fridge and freezer, which was great for storing food without worrying about the hot weather.
The games room was also fabulous, with games to play abd borrow during yiur stay, as well as a book swap.
There were great washing, toilet and shower facilities which were lovely and clean.
Andy and Jill were both very friendly and helpful.
We will be back!

Disliked The noise from the maintenance train on Saturday night, caused most campers to wake, but it's not something Andy or Jill can control.
