  • Well-kept family site in the Peak District National Park’s Hope Valley
  • Pennine Way start 15 minutes’ drive; Chatsworth House half an hour
  • Peaceful tree-shaded pitches with modern facilities
Set in Derbyshire’s Peak District National Park, Hope Valley has an excellent location between the villages of Hope and Bamford in the lush Hope Valley, with easy access to the Castleton caves and climbing at Mam Tor, Stanage Edge and Kinder Scout all within 25 minutes’ drive. The site has pitches across several peaceful and tree-lined fields, with one central heated shower and toilet block. The owners have put the natural environment at the centre of everything they do; there are wildflower borders around every field, and the mature woodland surrounding the site is awash with wildflowers in spring and summer. Numerous birds and animals visit too, and a quiet hour spent on your pitch may well reveal the wildlife that shares your space. Barbecues are welcome on the grassy pitches, but those who fancy sampling the Derbyshire gourmet scene can head to a pub about five minutes’ away on foot. Easy meals? A takeaway in Hope (25 minutes’ walk) will also deliver to your pitch. There are numerous cafés, bars and restaurants in postcard-pretty Hathersage (five minutes’ drive), and a well-known fine-dining pub around 10 minutes away by car. A trainline is at the back of the site.

What customers say

Top spot! Spacious sites, friendly owners, and spotless loos. Games room's a hit. Great for exploring the Peak District's walks and pubs. A few grumbles about train/road noise and water pressure, but no biggie.

Unpowered grass campervan site

Liked Clean toilets, open spaces. Free washing detergents.
Close to a great local community run pub/postoffice and cafe.

Disliked The place is tired, it lacks investment,Signage for the new season seems rushed and fixed haphazardly. The location of the office from the entrance is a bit of a trek!
The dog paddock full of long grass, where dog can catch ticks etc. Childrens play area shut due to work in progress (Non seen)
Games hut could do to have a bit of stain to the exterior . No hot water in the showers and little or no water pressure either.
An expensive stay for facilities which aren't working, not to mention a train line close by.
Difficult and hazardous when attempting to join the busy road.

From the manager: Hi Christopher

It's a shame that you disliked so much about your one night stay.
In terms of your comment about lack of investment.... we have recently invested a large 7 figure sum in purchasing the site, and continue to invest significant sums of money and huge amounts of time across the site, it having being left empty by the Girl Guides for circa 3 years. Needless to say, this is an enormous project, which visitors to the site are loving the results of.

The play area is shut for maintenance, and not advertised as open, your comment therefore is a moot point. Strangely enough play ground maintenance teams don't work on a Sunday evenings.....

If you are worried about dog getting ticks then being anywhere in the Peak District poses a risk

Joining the road from the site isnt difficult or hazardous. The Highways Authority of course wouldn't allow that to be the case.

Liked Fantastic site, very clean and specious. We met the owner Gill and she is lovely! Made us feel right at home straight away. The games room was a big hit with my children, and being train mad my youngest loved being next to the railway! We will most certainly be booking here again!

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked Nice big pitch, clean facilities and not too busy

Disliked Extremely low water pressure. Sometimes no water at all. Both times I tried to have a shower there was no water. No hot water one day to wash pots and just a trickle of cold water.

The trainline ( which obviously can't be helped) would put us off going again as the trains wake you up it is so close to the field.

The play park was under maintenence so couldn't be used.

From the manager: Thank you for your comments

Regarding water pressure, the valley does suffer from a huge influx of tourists which affects water pressure across the local area. We are investigating options to improve pressure on the site ourselves as the water company aren't open to investing
Next year we will have another shower block open in a different area of the site, with enormous water tanks that will certainly help.

The park is closed for maintenance and is not advertised as it isn't available for use.

Thanks

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked Spacious site, with a level family field and clean, well maintained facilities with a good supply of hot water. I particularly liked the games room with free to use games, and ample fridge/freezer provision.

Disliked The site is close to an unexpectedly busy road, and railway line.
Problems with water pressure result in unreliable taps and showers.

Local attractions

For all you fresh-air fans, the site owners have partnered with a local activity provider, and can book rock climbing, abseiling, canoeing, kayaking and paddleboarding sessions for you, as well as dry-land options like mountain biking and paragliding (courses or tandem flights). They’ll also help you book day tickets for fly fishing on Ladybower Reservoir (10 minutes’ drive). If you’re keen to be out on testing hikes, it may be useful to know that the start of the Pennine Way is in Edale (15 minutes). You can also follow family-centric trails around Derwent valleys and reservoirs – there are spectacular views from the Derwent Dam viewpoint (15 minutes). Lively Bakewell (25 minutes) has lots of smart shops and is gateway to the trails and bike paths of the Derbyshire Dales. Local day trips could see you going down into the Blue John Cavern in Castleton (10 minutes), or admiring the priceless antiques and formal gardens at Chatsworth House (half an hour), where there’s also a petting farm to keep younger kids happy. Alternatively, wait for a sunny day and head for Hathersage (five minutes) for a family splash around in the outdoor swimming pool.
