What customers say
Great pitches, tidy ablutions & games room. Guests loved the friendly owners & Peak District spot. Train/road noise & iffy water pressure were downsides for some, but owners are fixing things.

Maybe a nice site for a family with young kids and dogs that dont bark
Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch
Liked Spotlessly clean toilet block
Disliked Noisy road right on top of the site all times of the day and night
Noisy train right on top of the site all day and until gone midnight
Lots of Noisy kids
Daughter had to leave site and go home (4 hour drive away) as her dog barked at another dog for a few minutes before the quite time rule of 8am and someone complained . This wasn't handled very well by the owner who herself came to tell us off with her 4 dogs which obviously didn't help matters . Its a dog friendly site until they bark then they kick them off !

From the manager: Hi Steve
We are delighted that you liked the spotlessly clean shower block
Unfortunately, your party breached our T&C's and decided to give us a 1/10 as a result, which seems a bit strange.
To clarify about your daughter's dog...
You and your daughter were in breach of our T&C's which state;
1. Well behaved dogs are welcome (perhaps we should change this to 'well behaved owners')
2. Quite site from 10pm to 7am
What actually happened;
1. The dog was barking relentlessly at gone 10.30pm in Friday. All in your party were clapping and laughing at the dog which seemed to made it bark more.
2. The dog was again barking and barking at 6.45am on Saturday
3. I spoke with your daughter and wife at 9am on Saturday and explained our T&C's and that they need to respect them, have the dog under control, or would need to leave. During this conversation your daughter struggled to keep hold of the dog which was launching and barking at me
4. I left your wife and daughter asking them to decide what to do. At no point did anyone fro your party speak with me or Andy to discuss what their plans were to enable them to abide with the T&C's
5. We did not tell your daughter to leave, she made that decision.
6. Your comment about my 4 dogs.... we don't even have 4 dogs. 2 of our dogs were in our private garden and the other 1 was in the house when I was speaking with your wife and daughter.
This summer we have had 144 bookings with dogs, and this booking has been the only one that has caused any trouble by breaching our T&C's
To respond to your comment about noisy children. This simply is not true. There were children on-site, in the family field (you were in an adults only field), and everyone on site (apart from yourselves) were quite well before 10pm all weekend (possibly because of the rain)
To respond to your comment about trains and the road being noisy all night. Again this simply is not true, as proven by other reviewers.
Unfortunately your party breached our T&C's and you haven't liked being asked to comply with them. We are a firm and fair team at Hope Valley Holidays and do our upmost to ensure that everyone on site enjoys their stay, and when everyone complies with our very simple T&C's, everyone has a great time.
Not alot…
Non-electric grass campervan pitch
Liked Not alot
Disliked Low water pressure ment showers etc wasn't available. Not hope valleys fault but no communication before hand was very poor. We have a campervan and could have filled up before we left home.
Also it seems that they have a dislike to dogs as they gave an ultimatum to the people camped opposite us about their dog barking. We only heard this dog barking twice both times when someone or when our dog went passed. Sorry we won't book again next year when we return to Hope.

From the manager: Hi Leslie
It is a real shame that you didn't enjoy your stay. At no point did you raise any issues with us, we are a very friendly team and do our upmost to help all customers with anything they may need with (jump leads / first aid kits / ice / tea towels / walking routes etc). If you wanted to fill your van with water we could have done that.
Regarding the intermittent drop in water pressure that impacts the whole valley... We do include this on the welcome email that goes to customers 2 days prior to arrival. And you will have seen on-site our information about the large investment that we (not Severn Trent who are actually responsible) are making to make improvements for our customers.
Your wife though did seemed to very much enjoy her hot shower and the free hair dryers.... I know this as she was in the shower block when I was cleaning it....
Regarding another customer's dog..... we welcome 'well behaved dogs' and have had 144 bookings with dogs this summer. The booking you refer to is the only one that has breached T&C's and caused a disruption to the site. It was barking a lot during the site quiet hours and could be heard across the entire site. The owner was struggling to hold the dog back when I spoke with her, and she decided to leave when we asked her to comply with our T&C's.
Your 1/10 review seems rather unfounded!
Great location and lovely site but water pressure issues unacceptable.
Non-electric grass tent pitch
Liked The location was great with lots to do on the doorstep, the site was really green, despite the hot summer, we felt safe and the facilities were clean. The views were also lovely.
Disliked The water pressure issues at this site were not acceptable. At several points it was difficult, if not impossible to effectively wash our hands, brush our teeth or clean the dishes. And you can forget about having a shower unless you drop on at the perfect time (didn’t figure out what this was).
The trains were also very loud, but ear plugs on the second night helped this a lot (for some of us).

Great facilities, but the railway noise ruined our stay.
Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch
Liked Clean, single-sex facilities. The games room was also a useful addition, and we appreciated being able to charge our mobile devices there.
Disliked The location is between a railway line and a busy road. I was under the misconception that the trains would stop running before midnight, but unfortunately they continued throughout the night.
Although we had booked four nights, after two sleepless nights we decided to cut our trip short and drive home.

Really friendly place with great facilities…
Non-electric grass tent pitch
Liked Really friendly place with great facilities and plenty of space for the kids to run about and had a brilliant games room. We had a lovely time and would stay again.
Disliked The trains are very loud especially at night (obviously not the owners fault) but would recommend earplugs if you are a light sleeper and could do with better signage outside on the road to know which gates are entrance/exit.

From the manager: Thanks for the review Hayley! We hope to see you again soon!
A disappointing stay, especially after such a warm welcome.
Non-electric grass campervan pitch
Liked Clean toilets, open spaces. Free washing detergents.
Close to a great local community run pub/postoffice and cafe.
Disliked The place is tired, it lacks investment,Signage for the new season seems rushed and fixed haphazardly. The location of the office from the entrance is a bit of a trek!
The dog paddock full of long grass, where dog can catch ticks etc. Childrens play area shut due to work in progress (Non seen)
Games hut could do to have a bit of stain to the exterior . No hot water in the showers and little or no water pressure either.
An expensive stay for facilities which aren't working, not to mention a train line close by.
Difficult and hazardous when attempting to join the busy road.

From the manager: Hi Christopher
It's a shame that you disliked so much about your one night stay.
In terms of your comment about lack of investment.... we have recently invested a large 7 figure sum in purchasing the site, and continue to invest significant sums of money and huge amounts of time across the site, it having being left empty by the Girl Guides for circa 3 years. Needless to say, this is an enormous project, which visitors to the site are loving the results of.
The play area is shut for maintenance, and not advertised as open, your comment therefore is a moot point. Strangely enough play ground maintenance teams don't work on a Sunday evenings.....
If you are worried about dog getting ticks then being anywhere in the Peak District poses a risk
Joining the road from the site isnt difficult or hazardous. The Highways Authority of course wouldn't allow that to be the case.
Very laid back atmosphere. Owners didn't bother…

Liked Fantastic site, very clean and specious. We met the owner Gill and she is lovely! Made us feel right at home straight away. The games room was a big hit with my children, and being train mad my youngest loved being next to the railway! We will most certainly be booking here again!
