What customers say
This is a back-to-basics, peaceful campsite set in beautiful rural surroundings. Owners are consistently described as friendly, helpful, and welcoming. Facilities are basic but clean, with many guests appreciating the natural environment, wildlife, and quiet atmosphere. Some mention the approach road is uneven and the lack of showers, though this is generally understood given the site's ethos. Ideal for those seeking a simple, natural escape.

A wholesome weekend away with the family
Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite
Liked Absolutely amazing long weekend away at Ellis Hill Farm! Our 1st visit here and we’d 100% return. We loved the location, it felt rural with plenty of wildlife to see and hear but it was still close enough to local shops and pubs (driving or walking!). The little farm shop on site is an added bonus too! Well stocked with different soft drinks, snacks and ice lollies (which the kids were chuffed with!). The owners are lovely, went above and beyond to ensure we were happy and enjoying ourselves. Special mention to Digger and his little patrols, the kids loved saying hello to him. Facilities are basic but we knew this already when we booked so we were more than happy with this. Plenty of walking trails nearby to explore too! The woodland walks are beautiful. All in all, a lovely campsite and we’ll definitely be booking again. Thank you :)

Excellent basic site, very peaceful and friendly kind people.
Primitive grass and earth travel trailer campsite
Liked Well mown large grass field, nice and level, didn’t need chocs. Tucked away down long bumpy lane and quiet and peaceful with no road noise and woods around.
I had to arrive a bit late as was visiting my mother in hospital (I’d booked last minute) and when I phoned to ask if this was ok the owner was very kind and accommodating offering help if I needed and said I could pay in the shop in the morning. Felt very welcome and reassured after a stressful day! Very peaceful night. Lots of space and lovely dark skies. Basic facilities, but nice to have a loo to use. Felt very safe there too as a woman travelling alone just sorry to have missed a cooked breakfast in the shop in the morning which smelled great!
Disliked Be aware there were lorries tipping hardcore in the yard above the site till quite late the eve I was there and the occasional aircraft overhead but still felt calm and peaceful and I’d definitely go back again, was not disturbed by any of this.

From the manager: Thank you for your kind and informative comments. We’re very glad we were able to help you through a difficult time.
We do have lorry movements in the evenings sometimes. It’s often emergency road work, so is hard to estimate when this may be. We’re sorry if this does cause any disturbance, but it is sporadic and usually short-lived.
We have opened up another field which is further away from the farmyard, so is a good option if you need a bit more peace.
Do please visit us again soon.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite
Liked The welcoming greeting, relaxed feel and time to slow down. The pub was a short walk and had pizzas! Audrey and Keith are wonderful, no showers but enough water and toilets to not notice! There is a lot of space and the site has a cafe which is so convenient. There are lots of walking paths and forest to explore and also a lot of space generally. The number of animals we saw was amazing, including two peregrine falcons which circled above us briefly! We have already talked about planning our next trip!

From the manager: Thank you for leaving us such a lovely review.
The pizza in the pub is pretty good, and an easy option while the weather is too dry for barbecues.
The wildlife here is really something. Binoculars are a good idea!
We look forward to welcoming you back soon.
Great wild camp with plumbed in toilet which is nice
Primitive grass and earth travel trailer campsite
Liked The gentleman who runs the site is so very helpful and friendly. Well maintained field area kept cut and tidy. The land is flat so I didn't need my ramps. Had a good sleep as quiet at night.
Toilets available and fresh water.
There is a cafe available for breakfast (we didn't use this though)
Disliked Not really anything I didn't like, as is as advertised wild camping. You have to take your rubbish home

From the manager: Thank you so much for leaving such a lovely review.
We really appreciate it if you can take your rubbish home, although some bins are provided if that isn’t possible. We love that guests enjoy the space as much as we do.
We look forward to welcoming you back very soon.

Liked The helpfulness of Audrey and Keith, the peacefulness
Disliked The bumpy track to the site
Recommend to friends Visit again
From the manager: Thank you for your kind words.
It’s true that the track is bumpy. The dry weather has made it dusty and bumpy. Wet weather makes it soggy and bumpy. We can only hope that it’s worth the trek!
Hope to see you again soon.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite
Liked A really quiet and peaceful off grid campsite, beautiful location, friendly owners and lots of great walks from the site.
If you don't mind basic facilities, this is a perfect getaway.
Also the site has a small tea shop onsite, for a great bacon sandwich

From the manager: Thank you for your lovely review.
It is basic, as you say. There’s no getting away from that!
The tea shop is only open regularly from Wednesday to Saturday, although we are currently opening on Sunday mornings for light snacks.
Please come and see us again soon.
Great basic camping site.
