  • Peaceful, family-friendly site in the scenic Clarach Valley
  • A 10-minute drive to Aberystwyth or Borth beach; Snowdonia further out
  • Parking spaces provided, with pubs and shops in the town
Tracking down beaches, mountains, forests, lakes and caverns is easy from Campsiriol in the scenic Clarach Valley. At this family-friendly site in Bow Street in Ceredigion, you'll only be a few minutes' drive from a scenic coastal strip belonging to the UNESCO Dyfi Biosphere, a green, wildlife-friendly and community-driven area. So, head on down, unpack your bits and drive the five minutes to Clarach Bay or 10 minutes to Borth beach or Aberystwyth. Options for a plunge include a swim from Clarach or beach-to-beach kayaking or paddleboarding from Borth beach, where the low tide will also reveal tree stumps in the sand remaining from an ancient forest. In Aberystwyth, there are more beach paddles, a cliff railway, donkey rides and Edwardian steam train adventures on the Vale of Rheidol Railway to choose from… all with the knowledge that the town has a generous selection of shops, pubs, ice cream shops, cafés and gourmet restaurants for your return. When you’ve had your fill of all the local beaches or forests, waterfalls, mossy valleys, hills and mountains inland, Campsiriol is a peaceful, family-friendly place to return to with parking spaces and permission to get a firepit going when the sun goes down. Just make sure to get a good night’s sleep in, as tomorrow could involve fishing, dolphin watching or amusement arcades locally. Want to leave the car behind? Bow Street station is under a mile away, which is very handy for trips to Aberystwyth and circular walks.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked: Close to beaches

Disliked: Long wet grass/ sections of field boggy. The boys came back from the beach and had a shower, later that day I get a text message to say..next time can they wash the sand off with the field tap before going into the shower room. Also had to pay £1 ( for 10 minute shower) for the privilege.

From the manager: Hi James, We’re pleased you appreciated our location and sorry you didn’t appreciate us asking if the 6 teenage boys in your group, could rinse sand off themselves before being sent off to shower together, unsupervised. Like the £1 for 10 minutes, it seems fair enough to us that other campers not be affected by certain guests’ behaviour. Nobody likes a shower full of sand, or toilets that are regularly left in a mess after groups of young boys have been in there unsupervised, which happened continuously throughout your stay. You couldn’t even do what we asked and park in the designated area despite repeated polite requests. We overlooked your having two tents and two cars for a single pitch when the rules clearly state one car (saving you £30). We also overlooked our rule about single gender groups, giving you the benefit of the doubt as they were mostly kids (rather than turning you away). We were friendly and helpful and continuously cleaning after unsupervised kids and we get a negative review for having wet grass (ever heard of dew/rain?) and trying politely to limit the mess you were causing. Unpowered grass tent site

Liked: A pleasant little campsite close to Aberystwyth. Ideal for a night or two.

Disliked: Lacking in a few facilities. An extra toilet would be good and an extra shower, but it is a small campsite, and it did meet our needs as it wasn't too busy.

From the manager: Thanks for taking the time to provide this positive feedback. Hope to see you again, Louise and Anthony

Cyclist only unpowered grass tent site (backpacker, no cars)

Liked: The setting is ideal - picturesque and rural yet near to amenities. The text-based check-in is convenient and the owners were quick to reply, wishing us a pleasant stay.

Disliked: The showers are coin operated, which I don't think was mentioned in the site information. Given a £22 overnight charge peak season, and a toilet and tap the only other facilities, the extra charge for the shower seemed somewhat unreasonable.

From the manager: Hi Dan, Thanks for your review, appreciating our location and set-up. Sorry you hadn’t noticed the mention of £1 for shower use in the terms and conditions before booking - it’s the best way we’ve found of regulating shower use so nobody’s hogging it. Hope to see you again. Louise and Anthony

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked: The views are nice and local pub does good food and is friendly

Disliked: This is more like wild camping in your worst enemies front garden who won't let you have hot water without paying for it and has no washing up facilities at all. The grass is uncut for at least a month and the bathroom is not clean and can't have been cleaned for a while or if it has then it was by a teenager who couldn't really be bothered to clean it. Some people who arrived before us didn't last a night before leaving and someone else who was in the tent next to us was amazed at how bad the site is compared to what the description and reviews say. No one on site at all to welcome you a sign that basically says here's our numbers but don't phone outside normal hours! My advice AVOID IT

From the manager: Hi Matt, thanks for your feedback. We're sorry you weren't satisfied with your one night stay and disappointed that you didn't get in touch while here to give us a chance to address your concerns in person/immediately. We will always respond to requests for cleaning additional to our regular and thorough schedule where someone has left facilities in a mess, as does occasionally happen. Many of your criticisms result from your not checking the information about facilities and check-in on our site before booking however. Grass was cut 12 days before your arrival. £1 for 10 mins of hot shower is a fair and effective way to ensure communal facilities are not dominated by anyone. People appreciate not having to check-in with a person as this allows more flexibility on arrival times. Best wishes, Louise and Anthony

Cyclist only unpowered grass tent site (backpacker, no cars)

Liked: Quiet site. Clean facilities Friendly owner.

Disliked: 2 toilets and 1 shower are not really enough. No hot water other than shower. No dish washing station. Tent pitches on a sloping site.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thanks for sharing your old-skool perspective and pleased you appreciated some things about our site. We’re a small site, so 2 toilets and 1 shower are enough for the vast majority of the time. There’s a gentle slope (about 5%) which most people find comfortable and we make no claims about hot water outside the shower, or washing up stations - people just don’t check listings before booking. Best wishes, Louise and Anthony
