  • A 25-minute drive to Bude and 40 minutes to Tintagel Castle
  • On-site clubhouse with restaurant, bar, games and entertainment
Devon or Cornwall? Cornwall or Devon? It is, of course, one of life’s dilemmas… but thankfully one that’s easily sorted with a stay at Chapmanswell Caravan Park, a Devon holiday park that’s close to the border with Cornwall and in a most handy spot for getting out to enjoy the spoils of both counties. This park five minutes drive from the village of St Giles on the Heath ticks all sorts of boxes for all sorts of holidays: it’s a family-friendly and dog-friendly place, handily close to the A30 (five miles away) for travels and days out, and with some splendid views over the Tamar Valley and Dartmoor. Even with all that on offer, there’s a highlight still to come – and that’s the site’s own clubhouse, The Anglers Rest, with a bar and grill that’s open all week, hosting live entertainment weekly in high season and fortnightly in the low season. The restaurant serves up reasonably priced food, including homemade fries and pies (opening times vary in and out of high season, with music continuing until 11pm in the summer). There’s also a pool table, dartboard, fruit machines and a dance floor to keep the good times rolling. Ice creams, sweets, alcohol and assorted essentials can be picked up at the site shop (they’ve even got doggy ice cream to get four-legged family members in on the holiday vibes…) Other facilities on site include a covered play area and a dog exercise area, along with a coin-operated launderette, a washing-up area and chemical disposal point. The bathroom facilities have baby changing facilities and central heating plus separate male, female and disabled shower areas. Reception is open seven days a week, and the owners live on site so you can always get hold of someone if you need anything.

What customers say

Welcoming, family-run spot with great value and helpful staff. Facilities mostly good but a bit dated. Clubhouse food and entertainment popular with families/dogs. Can be noisy, Wi-Fi sometimes patchy.

Liked Staff friendly, easy access to places

Disliked Did not like how the toilet and showers link onto the bar area which is used buy customers especially when the bar door that is linked is open and you have to walk past the door where everyone can see you.
The shower doors and toilets doors does not fit the frames properly which has a gap between them.

Liked Was a last minute booking and what a great choice, Such a welcoming family run site, super friendly staff and locals, even down to the chef Charlie offering to cook us a meal on her day off and the team and regulars saying which were the nice takeaways to be delivered to site.
WiFi works in the bar area. Everything clean and tidy, pitches well kept and we will definately be back.

*Apologies for the wifi during your stay, unfortunately the weather can have an impact on the signal here, due to sitting in the shadows of the amazing Dartmoor .

The friendliest and most welcoming site we have been and Dog friendly.

Liked Absolutely everything! The best place we have stayed while touring, everybody at the park so friendly and welcoming, really didn’t want to leave, Will definitely be returning as soon as we are able to. Friendliest people we have met and super dog friendly, Marc and Paula the owners and all their family thank you so much! We will be back soon. The facilities were great and showers super hot and heating on. Bar staff fantastic too. Excellent carvery on the Sunday we stayed and food lovely in club house, nothing to not like at all. Thank you all again and see you soon.

Liked This site is open all year round and offers great value for money especially off season as the clubhouse provides regular entertainmentant and the drinks and meals are reasonably priced.
Owners Paula & Marc are lovely and make you feel most welcome, and as its a family run site they also do alot for the local community . The showers and toilets are attached to the clubhouse but always very clean and hot. I enjoyed my shower. Pitches are level.
Well situated with beaches like Bude on the North Coast around half an hour drive and about 15/20 minutes to the town of Launceston that has everything you could possibly need.
We will be back especially for the Sunday Carvery.

Disliked Water in the pot wash could be hotter ( they have a sign up about the boiler pilot light ) but not enough to bother me if you just use the hot only.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked One of the best camping spots we’ve stayed at.

The place is beautiful, quiet and really well looked after. What made it special were the owners. We took a wrong turn, got our car stuck, and they genuinely went out of their way to help us, which we really appreciated.

We camp a lot and this is easily one of the best places we’ve been to. Would happily come back and highly recommend it.

Disliked Nothing at all

Liked Location of site is good

Disliked First night had dinner in the club house, food sat on the side for over 10 minutes before delivered to table. Was cold and hard.
No toilet paper in any toilets at 10:30 pm and still non in men’s at 11:00 despite toilets being cleaned.
Site power to pitches kept tripping out from 5pm on coldest night of the year through and over night, site drawing more current that site main fuse can take. Left site early as not wanting repeat of no power on freezing night.never usually use gas when away, problem with regulator meant couldn’t run heating on gas.

Local attractions

The only issue with staying close to the Devon/Cornwall border is the possibility of being overwhelmed by options for days out… so perhaps it’s sensible to start somewhat local with a visit to Launceston Castle (10 minutes’ drive) or a day of meeting cute creatures at the Tamar Otter & Wildlife Centre (15 minutes)? Alternatively, of course, you could set forth straight away for the seaside – there’s so much fab coastline around here but you’ll likely find some of the highlights to be the beaches and surf schools of Bude (25 minutes) and Widemouth Bay (half an hour). If you’re more into strolling along cobbled lanes, the fishing villages of Boscastle (the one with the witches museum) and Port Isaac (the one where they filmed Doc Martin) are both within a 45-minute drive. Other coastal spots to check out include Tintagel Castle (40 minutes), a place of much Arthurian legend, and the maritime city of Plymouth (55 minutes), home to the UK’s largest aquarium and a stonking gin distillery.
