  • Family-run dog-friendly farm site in Cropredy village
  • A 20-minute drive to British Motor Museum; 40 mins to Blenheim Palace
  • Wood-fired pizzas on busy weekends; a short walk to pubs and cafés
Fancy a farm stay, but not so keen on the idea of navigating little country lanes? Set off to Oxfordshire and The Old Dairy Farm Caravan and Camping: getting here involves a mere 10-minute detour from the M40 at Banbury. That location makes this a most handy spot for motorway stopovers, but there’s plenty around to please those who choose to stay longer too. However long you stay at this family-run farm, you’ll not want to miss out on meeting the pygmy goats and free-range chickens and peering into the aviary; once the kids have done that, send them off for a proper run about on the large recreational field to tire them out before bedtime. Handy too are the smart and well-maintained facilities, including a toilet block, showers, a washing-up area, water supply and Elsan point. The wood-fired pizza oven gets going on busy weekends (and it’s also available for private hire if you’re having a gathering). Don’t worry if there’s no pizza action while you’re here: it’ll take just a few minutes to walk to Cropredy’s pubs, cafés and shop (or its play park). It’s also possible to walk to the Oxford Canal and River Cherwell for waterside wanders, and a short drive will get you out into the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty for more walks, plus golf courses, fishing lakes and National Trust estates. In the main this is a peaceful site, but it's worth noting that a rail line passes fairly close by so you may hear a bit of noise from the pitches (or even spot trains – much to the delight of young rail enthusiasts).

What customers say

A family-friendly campsite with spacious sites & clean facilities, praised for friendly staff & child-friendly attractions like animals & a play area. Guests enjoyed the relaxed vibe & convenient location. Most had a great time, though some noted facilities could use updates & the train line might bother light sleepers. Good value, recommended for families.

16-amp powered grass campsite

Liked Great campsite with good amount to do. Went on solo one nighter with 3 year old and 1 year old. Safe enough for them to run around. Campers all respectful of speed limits - (roads won’t allow fast anyway) they loved seeing the animals, playing in park and ice lollies of course - really fair prices in the shop. Check in and out easy - great stay - thanks - will be going back.

10-amp powered grass campsite

Liked The goats and avery were great for the kids. Loads of open space for the kids to play.
The shop and bar were very reasonably priced

Disliked The toilet and shower facilities were not cleaned often enough. The sinks and showers were slow to drain, smelt of urine constantly, no soap in the dispensers and weren’t refilled in the 4 days we were there.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Unfortunately again not an accurate review for your time of stay as the majority of reviews show. Facilities are cleaned regularly. The soap dispensers was filled as soon as staff were made aware, and the cleaner also made aware to check more regularly when lots of kids on site - as they're foam they normally last weeks (but obviously not on this occasion, we do apologise, however a simple word to staff would of rectified the issue instantly).

Primitive grass campsite

Liked We had a lovely weekend here. The site is nice and clean and we had plenty of space to pitch our tent. They have a little on-site shop which pretty much has most things you'll need. On weekends they do food such as pizzas (delicious), burgers etc and the bar is open, which is very cheap. There's a couple of covered areas to sit under.
There's a load of really cute pygmy goats and an aviary too.
It is very close to a train line and the trains are fairly frequent. It didn't bother us at all but if you're a light sleeper then I'd recommend taking ear plugs.
Fantastic views of the night sky as it's a very dark site at night, so being a telescope or binoculars if you have some.

6-amp powered grass campsite

Liked Nice large pitches, bar and restaurant on site – we had the breakfast which was great. Friendly and helpful staff.

Disliked Could do with more toilets for a site this large. Several times I had to wait to use a toilet.

10-amp powered grass campsite

Liked The bar was cool. Nice little shop. And an easy walk into town.

Great for kids. Goats on site are a nice touch. There's public seating areas which are nice and often missing from campsites.

We had a breakfast roll and coffee both days which were good quality and well priced.

The bar was also good value.

Disliked Poor facilities. There was no hand wash in the men's bathroom all weekend until staff were notified. There is a second men's bathroom which is little more than a shack. The door had fallen off and was simply laid down on the ground.

The shop was being staffed by children, sometimes unsupervised. Giving it doubles up as a bar that seemed highly inappropriate.

The pitches are not clearly defined and the campsite was very busy with no sense of privacy or space.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: We will always attend any issues when notified, sorry we didn't notice the hand wash during regular cleans.

As for the toilets in question - they are the lower block which are more of a portaloo style (although flushing). We are looking to upgrade these before next season. However the main toilets are as regularly reviewed clean and tidy!

We always allow plenty of space on site and run at less than 1/3 capacity allowing standard pitches to choose their own pitch. If in anyway someone pitches antisocially then we would address if made aware. However as there is plenty of space for kids to play in the camping field we see no reason for this issue to occur - sorry it offended your ocd!

As for children in the shop, they are never unattended and adults are always close by, generally getting on with work to make sure your camping experience is as best it can be. I assure they have and never will serve any alcohol. If you went to a pub and the barman was changing a barrel would you assume the bar is unmanned? or that they were available when needed if a customer made that aware?

A bit of a harsh and blinkered review. Please read the numerous 9/10 star reviews for exactly the same weekend. This is obviously a camper offended when asked to turn the music off for the good of others - happens a lot!

10-amp powered grass campsite

Liked We loved our pitch next to bouncy castles,
We paid for 2 pitches but only used the one due to the weather and putting our tents together via gazebo. Staff were friendly, and the shop/bar and kitchen were great. Highly recommend. And yes there is a train track next to it, but didnt take away from our enjoyment.

16-amp powered grass campsite

Liked Weve been coming back here for 4 years now. It was the first place we ever bought our children and weve just kept coming back. We especially now like the fact they have a shop, onside food and hot drinks and somewhere to sit. They have male and females showers now too, not joint. So in all, its just kept improving. The little park, bouncy castles and goats are a great little bonus too!

Local attractions

Coming to the Cotswolds for a bit of fresh air and gentle activity? Set forth for fishing at Clattercote Reservoir, or tee off at Cherwell Edge Golf Course; both are about 10 minutes away by car. Country walking routes are plentiful too, of course, as are fine buildings to mooch around. Blenheim Palace (40 minutes’ drive) is perhaps the best known of all the Oxfordshire stately homes (and with good reason, for ’tis fab) but it’s worth taking a look at some others too, including Farnborough Hall (10 minutes), Sulgrave Manor (20 minutes) and Upton House and Gardens (20 minutes). For a break from the classic Cotswolds activities, head out to meet the big birds of Fir Tree Falconry (15 minutes) or sigh over all the shiny machines at the British Motor Museum (20 minutes). And if you’re in need of a tipple or two to accompany your barbecue back at base, there are some excellent local ones to be acquired at Hook Norton Brewery (25 minutes) and the Cotswolds Distillery (half an hour).
