Giants Head Caravan and Camping Park

Μου άρεσε There's a brand new toilet block which is bright, clean and equipped with a hairdryer which was useful. The staff are friendly and helpful and although the grounds are hilly there are flatter areas to pitch a tent on.
Their are good views and it's centrally placed between Sherborne and Dorchester.

Δεν μου άρεσε I found the shower anxiety making as the light comes on at one end and the water automatically starts at the other end of a long room. I was anxious about how long the light would be on and if I'd need to walk the length of the room in the dark. A little information would have helped.
The road beside is a busy one, but quieter at night and didn't really bother me.

we do have a friendly team here who all want everyone to have a enjoyable stay with us.
There are a few sloping areas but we try sand keep these free as a children's play area.

I am a little confused with your shower anxiety comment, all our showers have two automatic lights which come on as soon as anyone enters the shower, and remains on for several minutes after the shower is vacated. I have checked all four showers and all the light are working fine.

Μου άρεσε We liked the location and the facilities. Kids enjoyed running around and our night time bbqs and fires. Very laid back and friendly atmosphere.

Δεν μου άρεσε We were pitched on a hill, which we managed okay with but would have been easier to be flatter.

We are very relaxed here, all we want is for everyone to have a lovely time while staying. The majority of vistors over the Bank Holiday wekend had all been here many times before, so it is always a nice atmosphere.

Δεν μου άρεσε Proximity of super loud road. We had cars passing by few meters form our pitch, separated from the campsite by a hedge and small fence only. This was not a peaceful camping experience.

Από τον διαχειριστή: I am sorry you did not enjoy your brief stay with us, if you had stayed longer than just a few hours I think you would have had time to appreciate the site.

We did go out of our way to accomodate you, you made a late booking, you arrived on site an hour after our final arrival time. As you booked so late and it being the Bank Holiday weekend I was not able to give you a pitch already booked by others, some who had booked up to a year in advance.

The road is not a main road it is only a C road, however as this is the countryside and it is harvest time there will be the odd tractor passing. There were thirteen other caravans/motorhomes parked along the hedgerow by the roadside where you were and not one of them commented on the noise of the road. The boundary is actually a row of ash trees and a hedgerow.

I hope you managed to find a quieter site, which I think would be difficult on the busy August bank Holiday weekend.

I am really surprised at your 1/5 rating for the location, this is a beautiful part of the countryside with access to most parts of Dorset within an hour.

Also disapopoointed to see a 2/5 for value for money, I don't know of any other site who would give a reduced price because a member of your group didn't turn up on the day, which i did.

The road can busy during the day but is quite at night.

Only 30 minutes from the beaches and about an hour for anywhere else in Dorset, we are very central here.

Μου άρεσε We stayed at Giants Head campsite because we were walking the Wessex Ridgeway with a relative and we were all so glad that we did. It could not have been a better location for this walk because the Wessex Ridgeway passes behind the campsite and I'm sure it would be a superb base for many other places to walk in Dorset. We had a lovely welcome from the owner Caroline who was always around the site if we needed to ask her any questions. Considering the site was packed and it was the middle of the school holidays, the site was clean, well organized and relatively quiet. Caroline kindly helped us to complete the final section of our weekend's walking by helping us with parking and we were extremely grateful for that. Prices were very competitive, the welcome pack was very informative, the showers were excellent and we were amazed with the phone and internet signal. One tip: Ask for a pitch closer to the entrance if you want a flat pitch.

Μου άρεσε The campsite owner kept a good eye on the site so everyone was well behaved and there was a very friendly atmosphere. The toilets and showers were always kept very clean, despite the site being busy at the height of the season. Lovely surroundings and good walks could be had from the site.

We are pleased to say that out temporary toilet block has now gone and our lovely new toilet block is open, just need a few final touch ups.

We are lucky to be in such a lovely polace with lots of great walks.

Δεν μου άρεσε Temporary Toilets on a trailer, that one cubicle was continually flooding. Far too many 'Resident' caravans grouped together which felt like we were imposing on them when having to walk through. Also one particular 'Resident' being over friendly and a bit intrusive. Unfortunately we loved the area but not this particular site.

Από τον διαχειριστή: I am so sorry you did not enjoy your short stay with us. I am surprised as you did not mention how unhappy you were when you were here.

I am also sorry that the temporary toilet block was not to your liking and still on site when you were here, but i did email you and advise you that our new toilet block was not quite completed and the temporary block was still on site. Fortunately our new block is now finished and being used and the temporary block has gone from the site.

I was aware that there was a slight leak in one of the gents toilet cysterns, it was reported to the hire company but I am so sorry it wasn't fixed in the few days you were here.

I am not sure what you mean by 'resident' caravans as we do not have any residents on site, we do however have a few caravans on seasonal pitches and as this was the school holidays a few of these were occupied.

I am not sure who on site would have been over friendly and obtrusive but I expect they would have been offering to help you. If this was such an issue you only had to come and speak to us.

We do have a high percentage of returning visitors so it can't be all bad.
