Pitches

  • Touring pitches on the edge of the Parque Regional de Sierra Espuñas
  • Costa Cálida beaches 45 minutes’ drive; Cartagena 50 minutes
  • Dogs welcome; seasonal outdoor pool; pizza oven; hammocks
Can’t decide between a hiking adventure and a beach holiday? At Campiness you don’t have to choose. This dog-friendly spot sits on the south-eastern fringes of the Parque Regional de Sierra Espuña, but it is also a 45-minute drive from the beaches of the Costa Cálida. And if that’s not enough to sway you, the pretty town of Totana is a 15-minute drive away. Who says you can’t have it all? Overlooked by forested mountains, touring pitches come with optional electric hook-up. There’s an outdoor pool (open June–September), a covered terrace where you can while away a few hours drinking chilled cervezas, and plenty of shaded hammocks for afternoon naps. That’s for the grown-ups who like to recharge their batteries by doing very little. Those who find relaxation in strenuous activity can hike the wooded trails in the Sierra Espuña, keeping an eye out for eagles and sparrowhawks. Head towards observation decks like Mirador de Alhama (25 minutes’ drive, or a two-hour hike) for spectacular views over the pine forest. If you need vertical thrills, there’s rock climbing at Paredes de Leiva (50 minutes), while keen mountain bikers might want to check out Mirador del Collado Bermejo (55 minutes by bike). Back at the site after a long day of exploring, throw your hiking gear in the washing machine, freshen up with a shower, then start thinking about dinner. Will you be lighting up the barbecue or the pizza oven? Or maybe you’d rather head into Totana, where dozens of restaurants serve traditional food from the Murcia region.

Electric optional gravel touring pitch

Liked An outstandingly clean and well kept site, quiet and nestled on the edge of a forest with a beautiful little gorge to walk through or "forest bathe". The usual facilities are available (water, electricity, waste disposal, showers etc) however there is also a charming covered outside kitchen with seating , dining table and a wood burner stove as well as various BBQs available for use. Beyond that is a spacious indoor kitchen with a large sink, fridge, washing machine. Everything is modern, clean and well appointed. The gravelled pitches are attractive, surrounded by trees and pretty planting. There's also an above ground pool for the hotter months. But I feel that the element that made the experience extra wonderful for us was the delightful couple that run it (he Spanish, she french, both speak perfect English too). They could not have been more friendly, welcoming and accommodating and looked after our needs extremely well. This place is an absolute gem for those wishing to escape the hustle and bustle.

Disliked To be honest I cannot say that we disliked this but some people might. There is no bar/restaurant on site ( though totana is close). For us this added to the charm and tranquility of the place. We knew in advance that this was the case so brought supplies. The approach road is somewhat narrow but we were in an 8 metre motorhome and managed it fine.

Electric optional gravel touring pitch

Liked Two large flat gravelled pitch areas, park where you like. A warm and friendly welcome. Very quiet, some nice facilities eg lounge area with fridge.

Disliked The last few km to get to the site is narrow. We were in a 7m motorhome and were ok.

Local attractions

The cathedral in Murcia (45 minutes’ drive) has a splendidly ornate façade featuring columns and statuary. The Museo Salzillo houses works by the 18th-century Murcian sculptor, or you can cross the river Segura on the stone Puente de los Peligros bridge and take a breather in the shade at Jardín de Floridablanca. Need a hand choosing a beach among the many options along the Costa Cálida? Playa de Percheles (45 minutes) sits between two headlands and has clear, sheltered waters and palm trees, while Playa Del Puerto, in Puerto de Mazarrón (45 minutes) is fringed by a long promenade dotted with bars and restaurants. Ancient ruins in the port area of Cartagena (50 minutes) include a well-preserved Roman Theatre and the House of Fortune, decorated with colourful murals. The Molinete Roman Forum Museum takes you deep within an archaeological site with a sanctuary, baths and fragments of ancient roads.
