‘Simple, soulful living under the stars’ is how the owners of The Secret Garden like to sum up their little retreat in the peaceful north of Lanzarote. So, if you like the sound of a chilled-out glamping stay in a serene spot surrounded by stunning scenery, you’d best be checking out this place.
The Secret Garden is a creative and colourful place that welcomes couples, solo travellers and remote workers who’d like to spend some time amid the fabulous nature of this part of the island. There are volcanic landscapes and sea views all around, with beaches, hiking trails and cycle paths galore to explore nearby.
With nature such a big draw here, it’s no surprise to find that the site has been set up with eco-friendly intentions. The self-contained cosy cabins here are all designed with natural materials and powered by solar energy, and the place is full of native plants. As it’s well away from any urban development, there’s plenty of peace and quiet, and you’ll usually be treated to some stunning starry skies by night as well.
Remote it may be, but not completely cut off by any means – the village of Charco del Palo is a few minutes’ walk away for a restaurant, a bar or a supermarket for supplies to prep in your private kitchen back at base.

Local attractions
The village of Charco del Palo is known for its relaxed atmosphere – and that goes for its attitude towards clothes too. This is a dedicated naturist village, and although it’s not exclusively nudist you can certainly expect to come across some clothes-free residents and visitors. The beaches and natural tidal pools are equally welcoming whether you choose to go skinny dipping or keep your swimsuit on.
The area around the village has lots to offer for hikers and cyclists, who can tour the otherworldly volcanic landscapes or make their way along the coast. Kayaks can be hired in Arrieta (10 minutes’ drive) if you’d like to paddle your way along the shoreline, and the town also has a diving centre for scuba and snorkel outings.
The Cactus Garden (five minutes), created by local artist César Manrique, is a must-visit while you’re here, with over 4,000 plants among stunning landscapes. The excellent Cueva de Los Verdes (15 minutes) is another popular attraction, giving you the chance to explore the subterranean scenery.
