Plenty of shade on pitches

  • Spacious, shaded pitches 7km from central Santiago de Compostela
  • Shuttle to city centre; a half-hour walk to Monte do Gozo
  • Swimming pool, restaurant, bar and play area on site
Message to all hikers on the Camino de Santiago (aka St James’s Way) – whichever of the ancient routes you’ve followed, you’re very nearly at the end point by the time you get to Camping Peregrino San Marcos. This relaxed and spacious site is seven kilometres from the centre of Santiago de Compostela, making it a handy spot for a stopover before the final push – or a place to retreat to for a well-earned rest once you’ve acquired your final stamp. That’s not to say that you have to arrive on foot at all – you’re equally welcome to come straight here and settle in for a holiday (with family and dogs in tow if you wish). There are numerous hiking trails nearby where you can get a taster of the area's scenery, and a shuttle bus runs to the city centre for easy days out exploring at your leisure. You might also like to head into the city for a meal (the seafood is particularly fine around here), although there's also a restaurant on site, and a barbecue area for alfresco self catering. Whether you’ve trekked across the country, taken a hike locally or just strolled around the city streets, the presence of a swimming pool on site for a refreshing dip is likely to be very welcome. The same goes for the beach bar, serving up cool drinks to end your day. A play area and games room are also on site to provide entertainment for the kids. Pitches here are spacious and shaded, sitting among the trees; they all have access to a launderette and washing-up area as well as toilets and showers.

What customers say

This campsite offers a good location for visiting Santiago de Compostela, situated directly on the Camino de Santiago route. Guests appreciated the plentiful shade from trees, spacious pitches, and generally clean facilities, including hot showers. However, several reviews highlight that the site is dated and in need of significant refurbishment. Advertised amenities such as a swimming pool and shuttle bus were often unavailable or closed, leading to misleading information according to some visitors. While staff were generally described as friendly and helpful, some found the site poorly maintained, with issues like overflowing disposal points and a lack of basic amenities such as soap.

Fully-serviced grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked The proximity to Santiago de Compostela was the only thing we liked.

Disliked Everything. Pitches were totally uneven, dirty and under so many trees there wasn't any light getting through. The pool's filter wasn't working so the water was stagnant and dirty, we couldn't swim in it. There wasn't a shuttle bus so we had to get a taxi to the centre of the town. The toilets and showers were extremely old and worn. We left a day early it was so bad.

Fully-serviced grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked It is a lovely, shady, peaceful site. I enjoyed the big trees and the birdsong a lot. It was interesting watching all the pilgrims and walkers going past the site. The toilets and showers are cleanish and have toilet paper provided. It is a good, simple site.

Disliked This could be a lovely site but it needs more care. The toilets and showers are shabby but cleanish (I do wish women would pick up their hair after a shower!! There isn't a shower fairy working here unfortunately). Toilet paper is filled daily, but NO HAND SOAP in the toilets. For €46 for 2 nights I expect soap.
The Pitch Up advert said there was a shuttle bus but there was no sign of it. The public bus is 15 mins pleasant walk away along the Camiño way. The advert also said there was a swimming pool but it was empty and looks unusable, so no beach bar either. I could not see a play area for children. The advertised restaurant is a burger cafe.
Their advert needs updating.

Local attractions

The gorgeous city of Santiago de Compostela is a wonderful place to spend some time – there’s heaps to see here, so getting the shuttle in and out a couple of times is a great idea. The spectacular cathedral is the city’s glittering highlight, with the huge Praza do Obradoiro square just outside. Simply wandering the streets of the Old Town is lovely too – looking out for places like Praza da Quintana and stopping for drinks and eats along the way. To get a good overview of it all, head to Monte do Gozo (five minutes' drive/half an hour's walk), which has fabulous far-reaching views across the city’s rooftops. There are lots more places to have a walk nearby too (often involving a river or waterfall), plus fishing and horse riding. If you'd like to see a bit more of this part of Spain, Vigo, A Coruña and Pontevedra are all within an hour's drive, as is the lovely wine-producing coastal town of Cambados – all make excellent day trip options.
