  • Site set inside a wine region and the Hoces del Cabriel Natural Park
  • On Venta del Moro town’s edges, a 15-minute drive from vineyards
  • Bar, games room and restaurant; adventure tours organised by the site
Spy the pics of Camping Venta del Moro – a small family site in the Hoces del Cabriel Natural Park nature reserve set in the wine region of Utiel-Requena – and the words ‘absolutely spectacular’ are very likely to spring to mind. Not convinced by the images? Then perhaps the idea of a hol lolling about on the edges of Venta del Moro town tasting fruity red vino in vineyards 600 to 900 metres above sea level is more likely to get you clicking the ‘book’ button. For non-drinkers, there’s also plenty more to get stuck into while in this part of Valencia, including rafting and canyoning at the Cabriel river, or simply sauntering along the banks seeking out local wildlife like the river otter and autochthonous crab. After roaming back towards your new home, set off to see the staff on site and have a chat about organised adventure tours, such as trekking trips that get you up close and personal with the Hoces del Cabriel’s geological formations, cliffs and gorges. Post-hike, the facilities are designed for chilling out: think a bar, a games room and a restaurant specialising in grilled meat. A couple of terraces are in the grounds with top views out over the lush area – sit back and relax here with (yet another) glass of wine and keep a lookout for the birds that sometimes fly overhead; you might even be lucky enough to lay eyes on the protected Bonelli's eagle. This family-friendly park allows dogs on the grounds; paintballing sessions are available if you're travelling in a bigger group.

Local attractions

After partaking in all the tours available from the site, turn your thoughts towards a DIY trip to spots like the Sisternas Museum (20 minutes’ drive), a space dedicated to teaching visitors about wine. The traditional village of Requena (25 minutes) is also worth a gander for wanders through narrow streets dotted with tile-covered houses and a visit to the Moorish castle complex. Admire the Gothic fronts of the two main churches, then head to the Bodegas Nodus winery (15 minutes) and reward yourself for being so cultural with a tour and a few sips of vino. Alternatively, if there’s life still left in your legs, set off on a circular 12-kilometre trek through the Hoces del Cabriel Natural Park from Fuente de Oliva, 25 minutes away. All sounding a tad too taxing…? Tour the area by car instead, making sure to stop at the Mirador Valle de Fonseca (40 minutes) for gorgeous views over the green scenery unfolding below.
