If you've tried the Costa del Sol, the Costa Blanca and the Costa Brava, too, and feel it’s high time to discover one of Spain’s less busy Mediterranean stretches, consider the Costa del Azahar (which translates as the ‘orange blossom coast’), on the Balearic Sea. On the outskirts of the seaside resort of Peñíscola, a 35-minute drive north of Benicàssim, is Camping Peñíscola, a dog-friendly spot with spacious gravel and hardstanding pitches for convenient coastal breaks. Camping Peñíscola is run by a family, and they know what families need when they are on holiday, starting with a playground with a bouncy castle, and an activity programme that includes live music, flamenco shows and pétanque competitions. The owners also have ambitious plans for the future, with two pools in the works (including a swim-up bar and a toddlers’ pool with waterslides), a splash park and a multisports court. Until then, guests will have to go to the beach for their daily swim – and it’s no great sacrifice, especially if you have a bike: it takes about 15 minutes to cycle to sandy Playa de Peñíscola (10 minutes if you drive); from June to September, a public bus stopping in front of the site connects to the beach and the town centre. Easy-peasy. Restaurants dot the palm tree-lined promenade at Peñíscola, and there's also a varied menu available at the on-site eatery. Also on site are a modern toilet/shower block (with amenities for disabled guests), a launderette and a drying room.

  • The outdoor swimming pool is open between 01/06 and 30/09 (subject to weather conditions).
  • Reception is unmanned after 8 p.m.. Please inform the site while on your way there should you expect to arrive after this time, so that the team can provide information about your unit/pitch.
  • 4kWh of electricity is included per day. Further usage is metered on site at €0.45 per kWh and is payable on departure.

Liked Platz wird gerade umfänglich renoviert, neue gute Sanitäranlagen, große Stellplätze, Wasser und Strom direkt am Platz, Abwasser und Entsorgung sehr gut, großes Restaurant mit gutem und preisgünstigem Essen. Ruhige Lage .Nächster Supermarkt(Aldi) etwa 2,5 Km entfernt. Mit dem Fahrrad bis zur Stadt circa 5 KM. Ab Sommer sicher die auf dem Platz befindlichen großen Pools nutzbar.

Disliked Platz ist etwas weit entfernt, nur mit Rad oder Wagen in die Stadt.

Liked Travelling as a couple with 3 dogs. Only stayed 1 night however we would have stayed longer had we not been heading down to Alicante.
The site has only been open 3 months and still has work going on. Should be done by June. This does not affect the site use at all. Will be great for families this summer with the pool. Their concept and ideas are brilliant.
Very welcoming on arrival. Given the clubhouse itinerary and a free drink each voucher. We didn't use as we had the dogs and they are overly friendly.
WiFi strong. Washing machine 5 euros including washing powder. Buy coin at reception.
The weather turned in the evening and we had gale force winds. Everything on site stayed put.
The facilities for showering were fantastic and spotlessly clean. A super hand dryer and pump foam handwash. Plentt of toilets. The block had showers with a toilet and basin in the cubicle with a mirror. No push button 20 second shower. Rainfall shower lovely pressure amd not too hot..
Each pitch had a washing up sink, there were also communal sinks at the shower block.
Lovely tidy site with plenty of bins.
I'd definitely recommend this site, price was great value for money.

Liked Lovely friendly site. Spacious pitch. Great toilet and shower facilities. Lovely bar/ restaurant on site. Views of the sea at the bottom of the site. A lot of money being spent on the site to provide 2 large pool areas, children's play area, a seperate pool bar and terrace. Would love to return to see the project complete. 10 minutes by car to

Disliked Had a beefsteak meal. Unfortunately the beef was very difficult to eat. Very tough. I said to staff, and they were very professional. Asked me to choose another meal. I went for pizza and it was huge, and very nice. The staff were really good about it. My dog loved the pizza too. Dog friendly which is a bonus. 😊

Macaws and cockatoos are among the winged residents at Papagayo Garden (five minutes’ drive), an animal sanctuary that's home to more than 50 species of parrots, plus lemurs and capybaras. At the centre of the Laberint de Peñíscola (five minutes), Spain’s largest maze, is one of the five huge dinosaur statues on the grounds. Dominating Peñíscola (10 minutes) from a rocky outcrop jutting into the Balearic Sea, Castell de Peñíscola has a long history going back to the 13th century and the Knights Templar. On the same headland is the Magic Museum Yunke, where you can learn all about iconic magic tricks, such as levitating assistants. Poblado Ibero Puig de la Nau (15 minutes) is a fortified hilltop settlement dating from the fifth century BC. Call in advance to arrange for a guided tour, which will take you through its ancient streets, past stone houses and into a centuries-old wine cellar.
