You’ve watched (and laughed at) every episode of the British TV show ‘Benidorm’ – now it’s time to check out this seaside resort in the Alicante province for yourself. Your base while in the area? Camperlive Benidorm. This large site with gravel motorhome pitches (all with electricity, drinking water and grey water drainage) sits just outside Benidorm itself (about 10 minutes’ drive), which means you won’t be in the thick of the town’s famed buzzing nightlife – though you can still access pubs, karaoke bars and nightclubs with relative ease. A bus stopping about 150 metres from the site travels to the city every 20 minutes. Chances are you’re visiting the Costa Blanca because you’re after seaside time, and with Platja de La Cala de Finestrat a 20-minute walk away (or a five-minute drive), you can clock loads of hours on the golden sand. In the height of summer, if this sheltered beach feels crowded, head to palm tree-dotted Platja de Ponent (10 minutes), which is considerably longer. It is also skirted by a cycle path, so if you have your bike, you’ll be able to reach any of the restaurants along the seafront in no time. On your way back from the beach, you can swing by the supermarkets at the Centro Comercial La Marina (10-minute walk) to stock up on food items to grill in the barbecue area (with plenty of picnic tables). While the kids splash around in the pool, you can unleash your canine companion in the on-site dog park. Other amenities include a modern toilet block with showers and a launderette.

Local attractions

If the kids are clamouring for excitement, a couple of amusement parks in the vicinity ought to make them happy. Terra Mítica (10 minutes’ drive) has roller coasters and thrill rides set within themed zones recreating ancient cultures like Egypt, Greece and Rome. Aqualandia (20 minutes) is a park with water slides, rapids and Jacuzzis. If you need a break from the beach, try the woodland trails leading to the top of Puig Campana (half an hour), from where there are views as far as Ibiza on clear days. Or head to the Fonts de l’Algar, a nature reserve with limestone formations, waterfalls and natural pools called ‘tolls’ for refreshing dips. Alicante (35 minutes) is a historic city with a rich Greek, Roman and Moorish past. Stroll along the seafront promenade while admiring yachts moored in the marina, or check out the exhibitions in the contemporary art museum.

Liked Great site close to main supermarkets. 15min walk to the beach . We had a great level pitch with electric . Showers toilets immaculate. Louis the manager was super friendly made us welcome and spoke good English. Whole site is spotless. Great location .

Disliked Only 1 negative were the drain smells not continuous but when they arose wasn't great.
But it seems a problem all around areas

Liked Everything! Perfect place to stay, ideally located to visit surrounding areas such as benidorm, calpe, dena, almera etc. Finestrat bay alone is worth the stay! Second year here but unfortunately my husband had a terrible accident whilst we were there which culminated in him having to be air ambulanced home after 3 weeks. The staff went above and beyond to look after me and I couldn't have been in a better place! Special mention to Lewis and Maria Louisa!!! Thank you x

Liked The camp site is fantastic. The whole place is extremely clean and all the facilities lovely and new. The staff are so lovely and speak English very well. The site is in easy reach of everywhere - but we like walking! However, we did catch a bus the other evening (bus 2) to the end of the line and it was very cheap.
