  • Spacious site well placed for stopovers
  • Excellent base for exploring historic Salamanca
  • Regular bus from the grounds into Salamanca's Old Town
For days of Salamanca sightseeing and stopovers en route between Portugal and San Sebastián, the UK and France, Camping Regio in Santa Marta de Tormes should be just the job. A short and inexpensive bus ride takes you direct from the grounds into Salamanca (and back) every hour, and if you're up for a squeezing a spot of extra exercise into your itinerary, then you're a couple of kilometres from the Dutch-style riverside cycle path that leads right into the city's Old Town and branches off for jaunts into the newer part of the city. There's plenty of space for running around, and the large pool and its neighbouring paddling pool provide ample splashing and swimming space as well as sun beds around a grassy surrounding space. A food shop and a café-bar with a big sunny terrace are on site too in summer, but if you find yourself fancying a further-flung forage, a huge hypermarket and a smaller budget supermarket are both within about four kilometres. The restaurant there serves reasonably priced set menus and, happily, offers discounts to Camping Regio guests. Pitches are flat, level and grassy and the mature trees that lie dotted around the site provide a good balance of shade and sunny spots. There are water taps at every third pitch and if you need to catch up on a spot of laundry, this is the place to do it: the laundry room's two token-operated washing machines and dryers have been highly commended by previous guests, as have their sparklingly clean bathroom block and top-notch wifi service.

What customers say

This is a large, clean campsite with spacious pitches and excellent, modern shower facilities. Its primary appeal is its convenient location for visiting Salamanca, with a frequent bus service directly from the site. Staff are consistently praised for being friendly and helpful. Amenities include a swimming pool, bar, and small shop. Some minor issues mentioned include dated facilities in certain areas, and occasional muddy pitches after rain.

Electric grass campervan pitch

Liked Excellent site nicely presented well maintained toilet and shower blocks were excellent lovely hot water wheelchair access but no disabled toilets staff very helpful. We ate in the restaurant one evening which was delicious. Beautiful walk into the historic centre along the river through the park highly recommended.

Disliked Unfortunately, for a sight of this size not having any disabled shower blocks or toilets was a negative, but I previously mentioned slopes into the main shower and toilet blocks

Electric grass touring caravan pitch

Liked We stayed for two nights at Camping Regio Salamanca on our journey south after arriving with Brittany Ferries in Bilbao, and it was a perfect stopover.

The location is excellent, with easy access to Salamanca town centre and a bus stop right outside the campsite, making sightseeing very convenient.

The reception staff spoke very good English and were extremely helpful and welcoming. Our pitch was large and well laid out, with plenty of space, although the pitches are open. Electric hook-up was included in the pitch fee, which was great value, and free WiFi was available across the site.

The shower and toilet facilities were some of the best we’ve experienced while travelling — very clean, modern, and well maintained.

There is a small shop on site for essentials, and a swimming pool (not open during our stay in February). We also enjoyed the bar: the staff were friendly, the atmosphere relaxed, and prices were very reasonable.

A great campsite for a short stay or base to explore Salamanca. We would happily stay here again and highly recommend it for anyone travelling through Spain.

Electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked Big pitches, our 8.8m motorhome fitted on nicely. Facilities very good, ladies had just had a complete refurb. Nice walk into town. Staff polite.

Disliked Not campsites fault but road noise from nearby motorway. Inconsistencies with some staff saying dogs were allowed in bar and then others saying no dogs.

Electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked Shout out for Camping Regio, near Salamanca

We stayed for 3 nights. Yes the pitches are grass/ sandy so if it’s been chucking it down for days / weeks like now, they are a bit soggy … but… several of us found places to pitch no bother

And other than that it’s a bit of a gem.

Bus stop right on site and a very easy ride into Salamanca … which is brilliant!

Local town to the site is a great little place too with really handy supermarkets

Fuel station a few mins away too

Super pleasant people at check in

A restaurant and bar if that’s your thing

Next to a hotel run by the same family where you can use the gym etc if that’s your thing

Plus the facilities block is the biggest I’ve ever seen, very clean and brilliant hot showers

Local attractions

This is a brill base for exploring the vibrant and history-packed student city of Salamanca, without a doubt Castilla's liveliest city and famed the world over for its characteristic rare beauty. Make sure you visit Plaza Mayor – hailed by many as Spain's most spectacular central plaza – especially at nighttime to see the splendid illumination of its beaut baroque architecture. If skiing or snowboarding are your sports of choice, the resort of La Covatilla lies 80 kilometres from base, where there are 27 kilometres of slopes accessed by three ski lifts that transport you to elevations of between 1,990 and 2,368 metres above sea level. For golf, Zarapicos and Villamayor have good courses, and intermediate and experienced horse riders can visit the northern and southern valleys of Sierra de Gredos for hacks through open fields and along riverbanks for smashing views over the surrounding lands. The region is covered with a constellation of small villages, including La Alberca, Ciudad Rodrigo and Mogarraz, and there's a smashing woodland hiking path, the Camino del Agua, that runs along a route linking the villages of Mogarraz and Monforte.
