  • Countryside family-friendly site set in lush vegetation
  • A 15-minute drive from UNESCO World Heritage Sites at Burgos
  • Paradise for walkers: join Camino de Santiago 20 minutes' drive away
Feeling stressed and finally ready to heed the call of the wild? Head to Camping Quinta de Cavia, a family-friendly site in the countryside (but less than five minutes’ drive from Cavia in the Burgos province of Castile and Leon), where relaxation in nature is the order of the day. Quinta de Cavia is a haven for anyone who favours their own two legs for getting around: the site is 20 minutes' drive from Hornillos del Camino, a resting point on the Camino de Santiago, and you can follow the long-distance route as far as you’d like. If that doesn’t sound like relaxation to you, there are plenty of scenic villages nearby to explore by car: head to Rabé de las Calzadas, Mahamud or the castle and monastery of Castrojeriz. There's scope to relax at the spacious green site too, with a game of pétanque, a dip in the pool or an afternoon lounging in the TV room. There’s a bar-café for tapas and drinks to keep you ticking over until you’re ready to tuck into a more substantial meal; at that point, make your way to the restaurant to have dinner from its set menu among the spectacular views around the terrace. Takeaways are available too. If you’d prefer to cater for yourself, take a trip to the supermarket five minutes away and then get grilling in the barbecue area.

Local attractions

Start with a visit to the city of Burgos, 15 minutes’ drive from Camping Quinta de Cavia: it’s a UNESCO World Heritage site and is full of stunning buildings to visit, including the cathedral, monastery and Cartuja des Miraflores. The Museum of Human Evolution is well worth a visit too. From the Museum of Human Evolution, get yourself a spot on one of the tours to Atapuerca, the biggest archaeological site in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where you can explore the caves and learn about the earliest humans to live in Europe. For spectacular vistas, wander the gardens at Parque de la Isla, where you can stumble on monuments among the trees, or make your way to the Mirador del Castillo, a viewpoint from which you can soak up the views across the city. Straying away from cities and architecture for a moment, make the trek to Kirios de Adrada winery for tours of the bodega and vineyard before a tasting, then stick around for lunch.

This campsite is highly praised as a convenient and secure stopover location, particularly noted for its excellent restaurant offering good value meals. Visitors frequently mention the friendly and helpful staff, clean facilities, and a pleasant swimming pool. Pitches are generally described as spacious, level, and shady. Some guests experienced noise from the nearby motorway and railway, and a few mentioned minor issues with facilities, but the overall sentiment is very positive, with many expressing a desire to return.

Electric optional grass touring caravan pitch

Liked We stayed for 2 nights when the ferries were delayed, the weather was appalling and the site was waterlogged, but the facilities were clean and the water was hot, the restaurant / bar was lovely.

Disliked The only thing we disliked was the 8amp power and the weather
