No, this certainly isn't a city site. Camping Rural Fuente de Piedra is in a splendid countryside spot with views over a local nature reserve and the Laguna de Fuente de Piedra, which is the biggest natural lake in the Iberian Peninsula and a birdwatching (and flamingo) haven. If you do fancy some city slicking, Córdoba, Sevilla and Granada are all about an hour's drive away: meanwhile, dump your stuff and have a day swimming, walking and snapping flamingos at the lagoon or hiking and biking in the surrounding area. When you arrive dustily back on base, a splash in the pool open in summer is the activity to opt for… and then wander over to the site restaurant, which serves takeaway and choice Andalusian cuisine.

Local attractions

The local lagoon of Fuente de Piedra is known throughout Spain for its birdlife – over 170 species have been recorded here – and it's famed too throughout the world for its flamingos… The colony of pink feathered ones that descend on the lagoon to breed in spring is the second biggest colony in Europe (after the French Camargue region) and the only inland site on the continent where flamingos breed. It's quite the sight – make sure your smartphone/camera is fully loaded with charge. The city of Antequera, 20 minutes from Camping Rural Fuente de Piedra, is also a top pick, partly for its good self and partly because it's known as the heart of Andalusia for its centrally placed spot among Málaga, Granada, Córdoba and Seville. Go here for several old churches, the Roman baths and Roman villa, the Alcazaba fortress, and about 80% of Málaga province's arty hoard. A bit further away but still easily accessible at around 45 minutes are the beaches and resorts of the glittery Costa del Sol, and within about an hour you'll be able to arrive at the cities of Córdoba, Sevilla or Granada. Nature sorts and conservationists might also like a look at Málaga's El Refugio del Burrito, the Spanish site set up as a subsidiary of the UK Donkey Sanctuary.

Liked Todo muy tranquilo, limpio, familiar y acogedor. Me gustó mucho la piscina y la arboleda que había en el camping. Si pudiese haber árboles más frondosos sería mejor para dar más sombra y refrescar más en el verano.

Disliked No me gustó las piedrecitas que había en el suelo de la zona de acampada. Tuvimos que habilitar el suelo de la zona de acampada antes de montar la tienda de campaña, para no clavarnos las piedras a la hora de dormir o de caminar descalzos dentro de la tienda de campaña.
La comida del restaurante estaba muy buena pero tenía precios muy elevados y no tenía mucha variedad de comidas. Algunos días cocinábamos nuestra propia comida para no tener más gastos. No obstante, si los precios del restaurante hubiesen sido más económicos, hubiésemos comido en el restaurante todos los días.

Relacionado a la zona de acampada intentaremos mejorar para que estén mas mas cómodos si deciden volver.
Con respecto al restaurante seguramente a partir de octubre será propiedad del camping y se llevara de otra forma.
Por lo tanto estaríamos encantados si deciden volver a disfrutar con nosotros unos días.
Les esperaremos encantados en cualquier momento que decidan volver.

Liked We travelled as a family of four with a one year old and a two year old. Our kids had the best time, nice small campsite but attached to the municipal pool so the kids loved it. The staff are so so friendly and accommodating. Not far from the lagoon at all, the town is so lovely. 24 hour concierge so we felt really safe. The toilets and showers were also very clean. We really really enjoyed our stay and can't wait to come back.

Disliked We didn't dislike anything, everything was perfect.
