Set between the Ria Formosa Natural Park lagoon and the Atlantic Ocean, this peaceful, eco-friendly site is likely to be a holiday location you’ll remember for a long time… ORLA Ilha de Tavira Ecoglamping is just 150 metres from Ilha de Tavira beach, a stunning sandy beach with clear water and a sandbar. Just to reach the site, you'll need to leave your vehicles on the mainland and board a ferry or aqua taxi to the stunning car-free Tavira Island. As you might expect from the island location, there are plenty of opportunities to plan for swimming or seaside walks. Explore the local area in full: the pine forests, the sand dunes and beach strolls to family-friendly Barril Beach, where there's an anchor graveyard. If you’d rather not walk to Barril Beach, board the tourist train that leaves from Santa Luzia back on the mainland. Take note: the Ria Formosa Natural Park setting is also popular for birdwatching. After the day's activities, you might want to head back to the on-site restaurant, which focuses on fresh, local, seasonal and sustainable dishes. There are other restaurants within walking distance of the site or in historic Tavira, which is just 10 minutes’ drive away once you reach the mainland again. ORLA Ilha de Tavira Ecoglamping has modern amenities and communal spaces, including a playground, a shop stocked with essentials, an outdoor cinema (in summer only), picnic areas and sports courts. Check out the range of activities they run too – paddleboarding, yoga, kayaking and boat rentals can all be organised.

Liked The camping on the island it´s amazing, quite near the beach. Good places, good shadows to place the tent. Good infraestructures, bathroom. Overall it´s an unique place to stay just in the middle of the Ilha de Tavira

Liked Parque muito acolhedor, com tudo o que é preciso, todo o conforto. Ótimo para descansar e usufruir da praia. Ideal para crianças, pois muito seguro e com varias respostas lúdicas.

Disliked Como é uma ilha com ria, os mosquitos são uma presença bastante notada. Mas com um bom repelente fica mais tranquilo. A restauração é bastante inflacionada e com uma resposta fraca nas ementas, sendo que é o unico espaço aberto ao jantar, devia ter uma resposta mais variada e económica para dar resposta aos visitantes. As atividaes de arborismo deviam estar incluidas na tarefa paga e não ser um extra tão dispendioso e que nao possibilita as crianças usufruirem livremente durante a estadia.

Local attractions

Back on the mainland and away from car-free Tavira Island is the town of Tavira (10 minutes’ drive). In the historic town centre, there is a Moorish castle where many climb the walls for gorgeous views, along with scenic cobbled streets and lots of restaurants, shops and coffee shops. Continue your tour with a visit to Igreja de Santa Maria do Castelo, a 13th-century church built on the site of a former mosque, or a more in-depth look at the town's history in the Islamic Museum. Some nice activities for later in the day include the traditional Fado music shows at Fado com História or walks over Pte. Romana, a pretty pedestrian bridge over the Gilão river. A little outside of Tavira – and considered ‘hidden’ by many – is Cascata do Pego do Inferno (20 minutes), a waterfall and natural pool surrounded by the typical lush greenery you'd expect from the Algarve region.
