- Off-grid lodges on a small island in Lake Titicaca
- Only accessible by boat from Puno's harbour
- Restaurant on site, plus kayaking and wildlife or cultural tours
Lake Titicaca is one of those truly remarkable locations, with a name that’s recognised the whole world over. It’s one of only 20 ancient lakes remaining in the world, the largest freshwater lake in South America and the highest navigable lake in the world.
It’s a pretty amazing setting, for sure – and one that gets even better when you book a stay at Titicaca Kontiki Eco Lodge, where off-grid accommodation is set on a little island a short way from the shoreline of Puno. You’ll be transferred here by boat for a special experience that will let you really immerse yourselves in this amazing location.
Completely surrounded by the lake, and with the Andes mountains beyond, you’ll wake up to some incredible views and later fall asleep under a dark sky that often glitters with stars. In between those two times, you can chill out on your private terrace, go kayaking or birdwatching, or join guided tours to help you soak up the scenery and local culture.
As well as that terrace area, each sustainable and solar-powered lodge has large comfy beds and an ensuite bathroom (with shower and eco-toilet). Bed linen and towels are provided, and breakfast is also included in your room rate. For other meals, there’s a small restaurant on site cooking up fresh dishes made with local ingredients.

Local attractions
It’s time to slow down and embrace island life… because some of the top activities here are simply staring at the views, looking out for wildlife and reading books (maybe the odd siesta here and there too…).
There is activity when you want it, though, because you can go kayaking from the island or join a guided tour – perhaps a wildlife-spotting outing to help you find some of the birds, frogs and mammals that live nearby, or visits to the amazing floating islands crafted from reeds by the Uros people. This latter is a must-do for seeing a truly one-of-a-kind way of life, along with some incredible crafts and constructions.
Back on the mainland, you can spend some time wandering around Puno, visiting the cathedral, Carlos Dreyer Museum and Yavari ship or climbing up to viewpoints for amazing vistas across the lake.
