Safe, secure, surrounded by lush swathes of Mediterranean scrub and within easy reach of long stretches of Etruscan coast sands… and in a rather wine-laden land too.
A short drive from the fine beaches of Marina di Cecina and Rosignano, and a few minutes from the Pisa province town of Guardistallo, Centro Vacanze il Borgo is in peaceful and green countryside, surrounded by Tuscany vineyards. Hikes are all around in the hills, or you could take it a tad easier and amble or jog along the three-kilometre health path on site.
All is thoroughly eco conscious and sustainable here, as the site generates its own electricity, purifies its own water and produces its own oil and wine on the land next door – sample generous amounts of both in the Vacanze il Borgo restaurant then bag a few bottles to take away home.
The restaurant serves traditional Tuscan and Etruscan coast dishes of land and sea, prepped and cooked with ingredients sourced as locally as possible, and paired with tasty local wines. Neapolitan pizzas and homemade desserts are also on order: have the lot indoors or on the spacious restaurant terrace, overlooking the blue waters of the seasonal outdoor pool and paddling pool. Guests can also order bread, milk and fresh eggs at the bar to pick up the next morning.
Centro Vacanze il Borgo is a peaceful site, safe and secure for families and kids, and surrounded by 15 hectares of Mediterranean vegetation including olive, oak and pine trees and colourful flowers of all types. Other facilities include a play area and a TV room, a pétanque court and a well-stocked mini market.
Four-legged friends are welcome; there is a special shower and a small fenced park where they can run free.

Take your pick from short drives to splendid local beaches and handsome seaside villages, to day trips to famed destinations such as Pisa and Livorno, both within 50 minutes' drive, Florence and Lucca within an hour, and Siena, 90 minutes from the site.
It's about 15 minutes from your scenic base to the sands of Marina di Cecina and 25 to the famed and dazzling white beaches of the seaside resort of Rosignano. The wide peaceful beaches of Marina di Bibbona (including naturist beaches for those keen to cast off their clothes) are less than 20 minutes' drive away.
Away from the coast, medieval villages, family attractions and winding paths for hiking, cycling and horse riding are all easily accessed in the region. If you're taking to two wheels, detailed maps with local routes and altitudes can be picked up from the Borgo team.
For those on hol with the kids, both the zoo of Parco Gallorose and the amusement and water park of Acqua Village Cecina are within 15 minutes.
