- Luxury site on a family-run working farm and vineyard
- Within an hour of ancient temples, islands and mountain hikes
- Outdoor pool and spa; restaurant and pizzeria serving farm produce
Phonaecians, Greeks, Romans, Arabs, Normans… they’ve all come to Sicily and all left their marks on the landscape, the language… and the food. When you taste some of this last from the farm shop at Agriturismo Vultaggio or in the restaurant and pizzeria, you’ll understand why all those people came here; it’ll be harder to see why they left…
Based on a farm that’s been tended by the same family for four generations, this site and its surroundings, a 20-minute drive from the port of Trapani, are bursting with good things from fresh local produce to pristine beaches, mountain hikes and archaeological treasures. It's a comfy and relaxing base to settle down at in among all that, with safari tents with ensuite bathrooms and kitchenettes, along with cool air-conditioned spaces inside and covered verandahs outside.
Your splendid leisure options on site include an outdoor pool for cooling dips, and a spa with Jacuzzi, Turkish steam bath, massages and beauty treatments for a more intense session of pampering your good self.
Peckish after that? You won’t be for long: from the ancient Sicilian grains in the pizza dough to the Nebrodi ham to the black bee honey and the wines from the family vineyard, everything on the restaurant menu is local, traditional and organic.

Local attractions
Burn off those pizzas with bracing hikes around the Monte Cofano Nature Reserve, 45 minutes’ drive away: there are clifftop ambles for easygoing adventurers, bike paths and climbing routes to the mountain summit for serious explorers, plus prehistoric caves and paintings.
Trapani (20 minutes' drive) has a tiptop combo of nature and culture, where in the middle of the salt-pans the archaeological museum explains the city’s ancient roots, while the lagoon attracts flocks of flamingos. This is also the place to catch the cable car for a climb up to the village of Erice (40 minutes on very winding roads, otherwise) and ferries to the Aegadian Isles.
The sea trip to the trio of Favignana, Levanza and Marettimo is a treat in itself, topped only by the super scenery of the islands: divers come for clear waters and a myriad of marine life, walkers for the beaches, mountain paths, caves and castles.
Half an hour away, the gleaming marble streets and sweet wines of Marsala make a dizzying package; the beach is a hit with kitesurfers while the archaeological museum houses maritime treasures such as a Carthaginian warship.
Temples? Monuments from the Greek and Roman eras are plentiful at sites like Segesta and Selinunte (half an hour and an hour and 10 minutes respectively). To see how all these influences combined into a lively, buzzing modern city, it’s worth the hour and a half trip to Palermo.
