  • Peaceful Molise site in the woods just outside Pescopennataro
  • Hiking, climbing, horse riding and other activities bookable on site
  • Restaurant on site with authentic local menu; all facilities provided
So, some part of you wants to escape to the woods to live wild and free… while the other part is pretty fond of living a comfortable life? The answer lies in a stay at Abete Bianco, in the Molise countryside just outside the village of Pescopennataro (a kilometre away and accessible on foot or by bike). Tucked away in natural woodlands well away from the usual tourist centres, this quiet little site is one of those places that manages to combine the serene atmosphere of a wild and remote stay with some top-notch facilities for a comfortable stay. That means you can really embrace the spirit of outdoor living while you’re here – taking in the scent of the forest, listening to birdsong and watching the sunrise, sunset and stars in peace. But you can also take a proper shower, use a proper toilet, wash your clothes and fill up with fresh drinking water. A barbecue area and picnic tables are provided for those who’d like to complement their outdoor lifestyle with some alfresco cooking and eating. But there’s also the option of the site’s cosy restaurant, which serves up a tempting menu of authentic local dishes.

Local attractions

This isn’t the place for you if you want to take in lots of tourist sights during your holiday. But if you’re in the market for outdoor activities among scenic and little-visited landscapes, you’ll be in your element. Confident navigators are of course welcome to set off to explore the area on their own, perhaps following some of the Dosima Trail, which passes through Pescopennataro. However, the best way to get the most out of your trip to this area is to let the site owners fix up activities for you – they have access to expert guides for hiking, mountain biking, horse riding and climbing, or for snowshoeing in winter. It’s also worth wandering down to the village of Pescopennataro to explore its quiet streets, visit the Museo della Pietra "Chiara Marinelli” and see if you can catch a glimpse of the village’s traditional stonemasons at work.
