A clearing in the woods, surrounded by trees and with a stream running past for extra rural charm… now, doesn’t that just sound like a fabulous spot for an outdoor break? This very picture is what’s on offer at Camping Rio Requesa, a quiet Liguria site on the banks of the Rio Requesa, 15 minutes' drive from Varese Ligure. The woods around the site provide a good amount of shelter from the weather, as well as a place to chill out in a hammock. Kids are welcome to play games in the woods, and you’ll also be able to gather wood there for an evening at the campfire area. The Dutch owners of this small site have made efforts to preserve the natural atmosphere, while also providing enough facilities to keep guests happy throughout their stay. The raised wooden swimming pool (filled with chlorine-free water) is likely to be a welcome sight indeed on a warm day, and the kids are also likely to be delighted to see a sandpit, swings, mini go-karts and various games including badminton. Food is a vital part of the setup too: the hosts cook up big pots of fresh pasta and homemade sauce for sociable meals at least once a week, and there are fresh rolls and sandwiches to order each morning too. Ice creams and coffees are available at reception, and there’s also an honesty bar for other drinks and snacks. Rio Requesa makes an excellent base for exploring the surrounding countryside and nearby coast, and the team on site are full of great ideas and info for days out; they’ll also happily help you book outings like horse riding or dolphin spotting.

Liked Empezando por el sitio muy bien cuidado, todas las áreas incluyendo el río le dan un toque especial. Los hosts te reciben en la entrada y están pendientes de ti durante toda la estancia. Hay zonas comunes donde puedes conocer a los otros huespedes. El sitio tiene una vibra increíble súper pacífico perfecto para desconectarte. Aparte está cerca de algunos pueblos muy bonitos para hacer compras o disfrutar en un restaurante típico. Si tienes tiempo puedes ir a Cinque Terre fácilmente en un día y conocer más la zona.

Liked Camping dans la nature au coeur de la forêt, adapté plus particulièrement aux tentes et autres locations (cabanes...).
Piscine hors sol. Possibilités d'acheter seulement de la bière et du vin.
Personnes à l'accueil très sympathiques. Dommage que l'on est pas pu parler en Italien, ni en français...
En soirée, nous avons pu admirer de nombreuses lucioles. Merci.

Disliked Le jour de notre séjour il n'y avait pas d'eau chaude.

Liked Picturesque site up in the hills. Modern and clean facilities. Lovely communal fire pit which added to the friendly feeling.

Disliked Pretty remote so go prepared with provisions! No WiFi and 5G signal was patchy.

Liked Très bon accueil malgré le fait d'être arrivé 1 jour avant la date d'ouverture. Evironement très accueillant. Le wifi fonctionne bien .douche et WC fonctionnel. Propriétaire très sympathiques je recommande.

Getting out to explore the area might involve putting your boots on and heading out for a hike (ask on site for route ideas) or joining an outing with a local horse riding stables. There are also lakes nearby to swim in, or you can climb up into the trees at Adventure Park in Val di Vara (20 minutes’ drive). Wandering through nearby villages is another great way to get a taste of the area – the ‘circular town’ of Varese Ligure (15 minutes) is a good place to start, with a castle, colourful houses and a well-preserved medieval centre. Maissana (10 minutes) and Torza (20 minutes) are also pretty places – and of course you shouldn’t miss the stunning colourful coastal villages of Cinque Terre (an hour). Other day trips might take you along the coast to smart Portofino and the lively city of Genoa, or inland to historic Pisa and Lucca – all are about an hour and a half away by car.
