It's free, quick and easy!
- Between Portofino and the Cinque Terre
- Sandy beach within a kilometre
- Pool, restaurant and many high season events
Colour, colour and swathes more colour is splashed along the slice of Italian coast belonging to Tigullio Camping and Resort in Liguria. Its Sestri Levante setting is halfway between the handsome harbour/pastel houses of Portofino and the bright coastal villages of the Cinque Terre, an area so old and fab that it's become a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
If you're here to tackle as much of the Ligurian coast as you can possibly manage, that's also rather fortuitous, as the site is 900 metres from a fine sandy beach and several more are within easy reach. From June to September a shuttle bus runs between the site and Riva Trigoso beach for a small fee.
And as it's Italy you must also tackle the food: have it at Tigullio Camping and Resort's restaurant, which serves Italian faves like pizza and pasta alongside some gluten-free options. Takeaway is available too.
Tackle lounging about in the outdoor pool surrounded by sun loungers, and activities at the high season events and entertainment including aquagym, a kids' club and sports tournaments. Other facilities include ping pong and football tables, internet access and an amenities block with free hot showers.

Local attractions
What an utterly fab section of Italian coast this is – and Tigullio Camping and Resort is niftily placed to get to as much of it and Liguria as possible. Hiking, cycling and mountain biking are all available around the site surrounds.
The Cinque Terre is probably the most famed spot around these parts: its five villas (Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore) along with its coastline and the surrounding hillsides are all a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most visited areas in Liguria – we reckon you'll see why as soon as you clap eyes on its colourful hillside terraces.
Once a small fishing village, Portofino is another tiptop stop and these days is a hangout place for celebs and other glittery sorts who come here, like the mere mortals do, for the harbour, more colourful houses and a spot of fine dining. (A clutch of luxury shopping is around in town too should you fancy dabbling in the celeb lifestyle.)
Clear blue sea and yet more sandy beaches are around at Porto Venere, another popular destination and part of the Cinque Terre World Heritage Site.
