- Welcoming, dog-friendly Campania site 10 mins' drive from Pietramelara
- A 40-minute drive to Caserta; Naples, Pompeii or Herculaneum an hour
- Barbecues, fridges and covered picnic area on site, plus a small pool
Time to cool off in the Campania countryside? Make your way to the Alta Terra di Lavoro area, where Villaggio Al Posto Giusto sits in a peaceful spot in a lush valley at the foot of Monte Maggiore. With lots of greenery on site and in the mountainous surroundings, this seven-acre site makes a fabulous place to slow down and put your feet up for a while.
That said, this also makes a fine base for a tour of northern Campania, with easy access to the main highways where you can speed off to the area's numerous historic attractions from across the ages or set out to explore trails through scenic natural landscapes. The local town of Pietramelara (10 minutes' drive) has a lovely medieval centre as well as being a handy source of shops and restaurants, and you can also plan day trips to places like Caserta (40 minutes) and Naples (an hour).
Back on site, you'll get a warm welcome from owner Giuseppe and you'll mostly likely get chatting to fellow guests over at the sociable picnic area or the barbecue grills. There's a family-friendly atmosphere here, and the welcome also stretches to well-behaved dogs.
All the essential amenities are in place here – guests have access to bathrooms, chemical disposal, charging facilities and a shared fridge, and there's also a small above-ground pool where you can all cool off on a warm day.

Local attractions
You'll no doubt pop into Pietramelara (10 minutes' drive) sooner or later for supplies, but you should also plan to take a wander around the town, taking in the medieval centre, the churches and the museums. Other heritage visits nearby include Sessa Aurunca (45 minutes), with its Romanesque cathedral and Roman ruins, and Archaeological Museum of Ancient Capua (40 minutes).
Wonderful Caserta (40 minutes) is a must-see, mostly for its UNESCO-listed Royal Palace of Caserta, known as the ‘Italian Versailles’ and a location that's been used in several films. Beyond that, you could travel on to Naples (the home of pizza), Pompeii or Herculaneum, the country's top Roman sites – all are around an hour away by car.
Closer to home, you may like to hike Monte Maggiore and see its hermitages, or take a walk through the Valle dei Cinque Castelli for a mix of history and hiking. Roccamonfina (40 minutes) is another good base for a walk, with chestnut groves framing volcano views.
