Set on the edge of the Ruhr in the sleepy hamlet of Ostbüren, just 10 minutes’ drive from historic Fröndenberg, Bauernhof Camping is a small-scale, peaceful farm site surrounded by meadows, fields and woodland glades. The level grass pitches all have rural views and electric hook-ups, and handy amenities to make life easy for you on site include spotless modern showers, a parent-and-baby washroom and laundry facilities. With hammocks in the grounds for lazy days with your nose stuck in a book, the vibe at this chilled spot is of total relaxation – it’s for anyone among you seeking to escape the relentless pace of daily life in fresh air and a ‘proper’ farm atmosphere. Leafy hiking trails through the Ruhr and Sauerland countryside start close by, so you can enjoy romantic wanders, family outings or relaxing hours exploring with your dog. Liked Locally cheap. But for obvious reasons.

Disliked Owners. Party all night till 2am. Kept telling us to buy his weiner whilst winking at us, we said no. Later his friend arrived and told us to buy some, no again, 20 mins later more harassment. Owners very very loud. No men's toilet working only urinal. Not one single part of this pitch has flat land, so not good for tents. One of the owners was then up at 7am shouting at someone very loud. Play area is a small swing, very rusty. Not a good experience. Would avoid.

Liked Ein kleiner hübscher Bauernhof, für Durchreisende optimal. Es gibt Strom und Wasser, auch einen kleinen Hofladen gibt es. Die Betreiber sind nett und freundlich. Gerne wieder! 👍

Disliked We pulled in to find rubbish strewn all over the place, broken toys- looked like a refugee camp - don’t waste your money

We didn’t stop and found somewhere else - nothing like the photos

Liked Sehr freundliche familiäre Atmosphäre!
Der Campingplatz befindet sich derzeit noch im Aufbaustadium, d.h. man "muss" um zu den Sanitärräumen zu gelangen, noch eine kleine (gut aufgeräumte) Baustelle durchqueren. Aber die fertiggestellten Sanitärräume, Spülküche, Dusche sind vom Feinsten!

Liked Nice quiet campsite.

Enjoyed a stroll round the village in the evening, which looked beautiful as the sun began to set.

Didn't check out toilet or shower as have these in the Van.

A good night sleep, set us up for the drive to Calais the next day. Thanks for the stay, I would stop with you again.

As well as footpaths directly from the site, the rugged Sauerland region (half an hour’s drive) serves up numerous hiking trails. You can walk sections of the long-distance Rothaarsteig from the centuries-old Hanseatic town of Brilon (55 minutes, well-worth a visit), or more experienced hikers may like to take on the Kahler Asten (about an hour), a well-known peak topped by the Astenturm observatory. For those who fancy a taste of city life, Dortmund (40 minutes) has a rich shopping and dining scene as well as the landmark Dortmunder U – a former brewery now morphed into a cultural centre and museum. Kids getting bored with culture? Take them to the German Football Museum to see World Cup and European Championship trophies. There’s more for families to do locally too. There are kangaroos, anteaters and pink flamingoes to spy on at Tierpark Hamm (half an hour), a zoo where you can also feed the zebras and antelopes. Grimpinger Farm Wildlife Park and Adventure Land (55 minutes) makes a fun day out with alpacas and meerkats to meet alongside gentle carousel rides for younger children.
