Camping Les 3 Lacs

A land of lakes, rivers and quite a few mountains too… one might guess that is in a setting where outdoor activities are easy to find… Watery stuff first, mais oui: highly recommended by the site team is a day at the scenic lake of Paladru, a famed French spot for underwater archaeology as it's where settlements of the Isère were found in the 1970s. The tale of this and more is told at the Archaeological Museum of Lake Paladru, beside the town hall in Charavines. Also around the lake are three recreation areas at Bois d'Amour, Charavines, and the Véronnière in Monferrato; greenway walking trails north and south; the Marsh Trail wildlife walk, and many mountain bike trails (pick up a free map for these at the Voiron Charavines tourist information office). Fishing for perch and pike is available in the lake if you have the relevant angling licence. More ancient landscapes are at the gorges and deeply scored valleys of the Chartreuse Regional Nature Park on the Savoie and Isère department border, or you could go modern for the day and take the kids to the Rhône-Alpes setting of the Wallibi theme parks, in Les Avenières between Lyon and Chambéry and open from May to October.
