- Dog-friendly riverside site in the Pilat Regional Natural Park
- Safari de Peaugres 20 minutes' drive; 45 minutes to Saint-Étienne
- Bike hire and playground on site; public pool five minutes' walk
What a lovely spot for a break with friends, family, your other half and/or your dog… Camping L’Astrée is surrounded by the lush scenery of the Pilat Regional Natural Park and on the banks of the Drôme river, making it an attractive spot to settle in for a laidback break.
Stay here and you’ll be able to get straight out onto several hiking trails or rent a bike to pedal along various paths – whether you’re after a leisurely family ride or something a little more challenging. The natural park is crisscrossed with around 45 walking trails and 42 mountain bike circuits, so if you like to explore on foot or two wheels you’ll be very unlikely to run out of options around here.
Table tennis, pétanque and a playground are all available on site for a bit more activity, and you’ll also be close to the local municipal leisure facilities – tennis courts, a football pitch and a fitness trail. In summer you’ll also be able to use the public pool, which is five minutes’ walk away and has waterslides to keep the kids happy.
Back on site you can have bread and pastries delivered for a tasty breakfast, and you’re welcome to light up a barbecue for your evening cooking. Shops and places to eat are five minutes’ drive away in Bourg-Argental.

Local attractions
You won’t have to travel far in search of outings and activities here – in fact, you can simply head out on foot to get to the local pool or perhaps take your fishing rod to the river next to the park (it’s first-category fishing here, with a catch-and-release policy). You may also like to cycle along the nearby Via Fluvia.
For some different activities, swing your way through the trees at Acrobois Pilat (15 minutes’ drive) or try out the via ferrata climbing trail in Planfoy (20 minutes). And if neither of those is high enough for you, how about a hot air balloon flight from Ardèche Montgolfières (20 minutes)?
Other days out nearby might take you to meet the animals at Safari de Peaugres (20 minutes), admire the vehicles at Musée du Car - Espace Joseph Besset (20 minutes) or explore the arty city of Saint-Étienne (45 minutes), home to the Cité du Design and the Musée d'Art et d’Industrie. A little further away, Lyon (an hour) is a great place to spend a day – it’s got excellent museums, a UNESCO-listed Old Town and scenic river cruises as well as lots of top-notch places to eat.
