What an utterly Plaisance place this is. Almost midway between Calais and Paris, this site’s leafy location is also a handily central spot from which to launch out for day trips to Paris, Belgium and along the Great War Trail.
Camping Port de Plaisance is the place to be for quiet contemplation, with plenty of shaded spots to relax among while the kids amuse themselves at the playground or by spying the resident rabbits. The path along the nearby riverbank makes for serene waterside walks and fishing, and guests can rent bikes for two-wheeled tours of the local area.
The park’s seasonal outdoor pool is open between June and September for summertime splashes and swims, and guests also have a ping pong table, a pétanque court and a communal lounge to keep them occupied any time the site is open. You can hang around the lounge to pick up the wifi service too – perhaps to plan how you’re going to fill your days around Picardy…?
For fodder, pick up your essentials at the grocery shop and order freshly baked bread and pastries for delivery direct to your pitch the next morning. Otherwise, the town centre is a short walk away has plenty of excellent restaurants as well as a weekly market with locally produced cheese, meats, veg and other tasty bits for barbecues and picnics back at base.

Local attractions
The Somme Battlefield heartlands has lots of historical hotspots to explore: walk or bike into Péronne and tour the Museum of the Great War in the town’s 12th-century château, or take the Remembrance Trail to investigate the Somme Battlefields’ most important spots between Albert and Péronne, such as the Chapel of Remembrance and the Delville Wood South African National Memorial.
Somme department capital Amiens, one of France's Towns and Lands of Art and History, is 50 minutes away. Famed for its mammoth Christmas market, the town is also acclaimed for its 13th-century cathedral (so splendid it's a UNESCO World Heritage Site), the Jules Verne House and its hortillonnages/ floating gardens.
Golf fans will fit in well around here too: the Picardy region has plentiful golf courses to tee off at, coupled with tiptop
views across green open countryside. For something slightly more scary, whitewater rafting at Picquigny, where you can also hire canoes, kayaks and paddleboards, is around 50 minutes away by car.
