Love the idea of a camping holiday… not so keen on putting up a tent? Here’s your answer – at Ze Camping at Camping Village du Port, you’ll have all the fresh air, freedom and facilities of a large family campsite, but you’ll have a large well-equipped safari tent ready and waiting when you arrive.
These smart tents are particularly great for a family holiday – each one has two bedroom areas, plus a well-equipped kitchen and a private bathroom. There’s also a dining table indoors and outdoor seating on the deck, so you’ll have a choice of places to relax with your meals and drinks. A shop on site makes it easy to pick up local snacks, and there’s a bigger store 10 minutes’ walk away in Saint-Sozy.
Of course, it could be that cooking isn't part of the plan for your holiday – so it’s handy that this Lot site has its own café/bar for drinks and light meals while relaxing by the firepit on the sociable terrace. Working up an appetite should be simple, as the site has a tennis court, playground, pétanque court and games room. The gorgeous setting on the banks of the Dordogne also means fishing and canoeing can be on the schedule.
And all of that’s before you get to the real highlight – the large aquatic area, which has two main outdoor pools and a paddling pool for the younger kids. There's something for everyone here – a rectangular pool for the length-swimmers, a fun family pool with an island for the splashers, and plenty of deckchairs for those who just want a snooze. A hot tub, massages and sauna are also on site and can be accessed for an additional charge.

Local attractions
Your first outing may well be to get out on the Dordogne from the site – the waters here are calm and suitable for kayaking and paddleboarding. If you fancy a bit more activity after that, try horse riding (five minutes' drive), tree climbing at Parc du Berger (10 minutes) or take your pick from the hundreds of hiking trails in the area.
Martel (15 minutes), an elegant town known as ‘the city of seven towers’, and cliffside Rocamadour (20 minutes), home of the Grand Escalier, are both excellent places to put on your schedule. And getting underground is a good idea too – perhaps a train ride through Grottes de Lacave (10 minutes) or a boat trip at Gouffre de Padirac (25 minutes).
For more outings, try the waterfalls and cliffside Château des Anglais in Autoire (half an hour), the gorgeous Gardens of Eyrignac Manor (35 minutes), heritage-packed Sarlat-la-Canéda (45 minutes) or the prehistoric replica at Lascaux II Cave (50 minutes).
