Crash out here for as long as you can possibly manage, for Camping La Crèche is an utter beaut. Even the amenities are rightly pretty, set in a 100-year-old building and kept immaculate by the rightly friendly team. Elsewhere around, La Crèche has been lauded as 'fantastic', 'stunning, 'lovely' and 'not your usual campsite' by happy former guests, with everything from the setting to the friendly vibe hailed as particularly praiseworthy. Camping La Crèche is a small and peaceful green Vosges valley site, in a woodland with a stream running through it for fishing or toe dipping. It's centred around a main house and its cosily cute outdoor seating area where you can mix with other guests and the amiable site hosts – as well as pay your friendly respects to the site goats and pigs. Hike from here straight into the surrounding forest, or just bag a book from the site library to find your own quiet reading spot. Off site, La Crèche is a few minutes' drive from the town of Le Val-d'Ajol, within easy day trip distance of the Alsace Wine Route and close to spas, biking paths and summer flea markets. You can spark up campfires on site to cook over your own flames. Breakfast and bread service are available on site. French fries are served depending upon the weather conditions.

Local attractions

The Alsace Wine Route is a popular day trip in this green and peaceful region, with tours available about 40 minutes' drive away in La Forge. By car, bike or motorbike, take a trip around the spectacular Route des Crètes, the viewsome 89-kilometre road from Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines to Cernay through the Ballon des Vosges Regional Nature Park. Its highest point is the famed Col du Grand Ballon at 1,343 metres, which the Tour de France has crossed several times: if you're up for tackling the col by pedal, start off from Saint Amarin just over an hour's drive away, for a ride upwards of 13.5 kilometres. Among the local spa towns are Plombieres-les-Bains, 20 minutes' drive away, and Luxeuil-les-Bains, within 30. Other local days out include wandering the restored fortified town of Belfort, or driving about an hour to the famed ski resort of Gerardmer and the neighbouring lakeside hikes and beach of Lac de Gérardmer, 50 minutes from the site.

Liked: A quirky little site in the hills, the owner gave a warm welcome and allowed me to choose my own pitch. Simple but effective organisation (great clear recycling) and a lovely old building for the bathroom facilities.

Disliked: It was a bit cold and it rained...

War sehr schön und Naturnah. Betreiber sehr freundlich und lieb.
Ist aber definitiv ähr unkonventionell und zum chillen und zur Ruhe zu kommen und hat nix mit kommerziellem Tourismus zu tun!!!
Ganz selten und ein Geihemtip.
Als wäre man zu Besuch beim alten Onkel oder bei der lieben Oma.

Disliked: Eigentlich nichts wenn man nicht den totalen Luxus erwartet. Wie Urlaub bei den Großeltern im Garten vor 50 Jahren mit Lieber Betreuung!
