- Small peaceful site on the banks of a fishing lake
- A 10-minute drive from Pompadour National Stud and 45 from Limoges
- Pick your own pitch – shaded and open spots available
If you’re fishing for a real gem of a holiday, head along to La Petite Perle, a small, scenic and peaceful site in the Corrèze village of Saint-Pardoux-Corbier.
The site’s been set up right on the banks of the village’s large fishing lake, so anglers should be best pleased. And when lucky catches are exhausted in Saint-Pardoux, it’s just 15 minutes’ drive to the nearby Lac de Poncharal where there’s more fishing to be had, as well as swimming and pedalo hire.
Landlubbers should be keen to visit too – this part of France is a traditional region at the foot of the Massif Central, with lakes, rivers and forests within easy reach, and Périgord-Limousin and Millevaches en Limousin Regional Nature Parks each about 35 minutes away, so rambles and bikes are handily close by. Prefer to see the countryside from horseback? It’s just 10 minutes to Pompadour National Stud for rides and weekly races.
This is a site for back to basics stays: there are showers, toilets and a washing-up area (as well as ice pack freezing facilities), but everything else is as green field as it gets. The best bit? Whether guests are sun worshippers or shade seekers, they’ll be chuffed with the set-up here – pitches can be chosen on arrival, so pick the spot that best suits and make it home.
And there’s no trudging through fields with kit either… just park the car next to your pitch and settle in.

Local attractions
If swims in Lac de Poncharal don’t appeal, cooling off is a cinch hereabouts, with a public pool just five minutes’ drive away in Lubersac. Other watery days are in easy reach too, as the mighty Vézère is about 10 minutes from base should kayaking excursions along the river beckon.
Perhaps thoughts of France conjure images of spectacular châteaux? There are plenty of those round here, starting 20 minutes away at Château de Bonneval for tours of the 18th-century stately home (the Bonneval family still lives here, so double check dates before travelling) and travelling on to Hautefort or Jumilhac within 45 minutes of the site.
It shouldn’t surprise that this part of France is full of pretty towns and villages either, many of which have retained their sleepy cobbled vibes in the absence of hoards of tourists. Ségur-le-Château, 15 minutes from base, is a particularly photo-worthy example, with half-timbered and exposed brick houses clinging to the banks of the Auvézère and narrow, winding streets leading down to the water.
Should the pastoral cease to entertain, the city of Limoges is 40 minutes from Saint-Pardoux-Corbier, with botanic gardens, museums, a zoo and an aquarium to explore.
