It's free, quick and easy!
- Peaceful, tree-shaded site in remote Pyréneés-Orientales countryside
- Five minutes’ drive to the Cerdanya Yellow Train; 35 minutes to Prades
- Grocery store and bread delivery; play area and direct access to hikes
At an altitude of almost 3,280 feet above sea level in the rugged Têt Valley, Camping de Fontpédrouse puts guests in pole position for explorations of Spain (45 minutes’ drive) and Andorra (half an hour) as well as the mountains and gorges of the Pyréneés-Orientales department.
Set among lush forest, the site is in a peaceful rural haven reached by car along winding lanes from the main N116, or you can have an adventure aboard the Cerdanya Yellow Train and arrive at Fontpédrouse SNCF station (15 minutes’ walk).
Life is pretty free and easy on site, with plenty of woodland to run around – dogs are welcome to join in the fun too – and a play area for kids to let off steam.
If you’re looking to up the physical activity, you don’t have to look very far; trout fishing on the Têt river is directly accessed from the campsite, as well as hiking the steep-sided Gorges de la Carança and following sections of the Thuès-Entre-Valls route. In fact, there’s no excuse for avoiding the latter, as the path passes right through the campsite.
Forgotten something vital? Ask at reception as they hire out camping kit and other useful bits and bobs. No panic if you run out of food either, as there’s a daily pastry and bread delivery service, and a grocery store to stock up on essentials. You can order baskets of fruit and vegetables on site too.

Local attractions
As well as being the starting point for numerous hikes including the Pyrenean Haute Route, Fontpédrouse (five minutes’ drive) beckons if you’ve overdone it on the exercise front – simply book a spot of pampering at the Bains de Saint-Thomas spa.
Also in the village, you can board the Cerdanya Yellow Train – one of the highest railways in Europe and running between Villefranche-de-Conflent (25 minutes) and Latour-de-Carol (45 minutes) – to explore the Regional Park of the Catalan Pyrenees (25 minutes) and its landmark Canigou Massif.
Sitting in the shadow of said Canigou Massif, Prades (35 minutes) has a lovely medieval church to visit, classical-music festivals in summer and lively produce markets to potter around on Tuesday and Saturday. The UNESCO-listed, fortified city of Mont-Louis (15 minutes) was completed in 1681 as a army base; designed by famed military architect Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban, today you can take guided tours of its fortress and citadel.
