Settle in for what’s likely to be a very peaceful time at Scierie des Lacs in the Jura region. This large, five-acre wooded park has a quiet and green setting just 45 minutes’ walk from the tall Hérisson waterfalls and 15 minutes’ drive from the turquoise Lake Chalain.
Those are just two of the region’s stunning sights. Multiple viewpoints are within a short drive of the site, including the Four Lakes viewpoint overlooking forested slopes and shimmering turquoise waters. Tick off Saut Girad waterfall, 10 minutes’ drive away, and take your pick from activities like hiking, swimming, canoeing, paddleboarding, mountain biking and fishing at the surrounding lakes and hills.
There are plenty of characterful villages to drive out to, as well as shops selling local produce and Comté cheese dairies.
On site, things are just as splendid. The kids should like gawping at the animals at the mini farm and sinking their teeth into burgers made at the dedicated barbecue area. A playground and pétanque court add yet more things to do, while dry toilets and a water fountain cover the practicalities. You’re welcome to pick your own pitch, in the shade or the sun.

- Please note that the toilet facilities are unisex.
- No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.
