- Peaceful site on the banks of the Cher river at Saint-Aignan
- ZooParc de Beauval 10 minutes' drive; Château de Valençay 20 minutes
- Outdoor pool, snack bar, playground and pétanque on site
Whether they're coming to the Loire Valley hoping for family days out, outdoor activities or tours of spectacular châteaux, guests at Camping Les Cochards tend to have one thing in common – an appreciation of the site’s scenic setting on the banks of the Cher river.
That location makes this a particularly peaceful spot for a rural break – and it puts you in prime position for some of those alfresco activities you may be looking for. The site is on the edge of Saint-Aignan (about a kilometre from the centre), which is at the start of several walking and cycle routes, and there are plenty of options around for canoeing, kayaking and fishing on the Cher river.
Stay here and you’ll also be within easy reach of some of the area's big attractions – ZooParc de Beauval is less than 10 minutes' drive away and the châteaux of Valençay, Chenonceau and Cheverny are within a half-hour drive. Meanwhile, riverside towns Blois and Amboise are not far off, and it’s about a 50-minute journey to Tours.
Whichever of these you choose to fill your day, you’ll no doubt be pleased to get back to the site for a refreshing dip in the outdoor pool – perhaps followed by an ice cream, a cool drink or something tasty to eat from the snack bar.
Still got a bit of energy to burn? There are plenty more options for a bit of activity on site, including a playground, bouncy castle and pedal karts for the kids and games of table tennis or pétanque for guests of all ages.

Local attractions
Getting out to explore the lovely scenery of the Loire Valley should be easy from here, whether you set out on foot, hire kayaks for Cher river outings (five minutes' walk away) or go donkey trekking with Les Ânes de Madame (25 minutes’ drive). Meanwhile, the Loire river is about 45 minutes' drive away for more riverside walks, bike rides and canoe trips.
If there’s one thing the Loire Valley is known for, it's the châteaux – and you’ll easily be able to tick off a few of the finest while you're here. Château de Valençay (20 minutes), Château de Chenonceau (half an hour) and Château de Cheverny (half an hour) are all wonderful places to visit, and there are more spectacular examples in Amboise (40 minutes) and Blois (45 minutes).
For another full day out, head to Tours (50 minutes) to explore the Old Town and visit the art museums. Closer to home, ZooParc de Beauval (10 minutes) is always popular with families for its huge range of animals across the park’s various themed areas.
