Castles, animal parks, vineyards, gastronomy and hikes… it’s easy to list off the sweet parts of the Indre-et-Loire and handily, Camping la Vallee de I’Indre is just the place to soak it all in. Owned by the friendly Julie and Lionel, this Indre Valley site is all ready for relaxation with wooded surroundings and the Indre river flowing through the foot of the site (full of pretty fish, by the way). It’s pretty hush at this three-hectare site, which makes for some quality relaxation for family, friends or couples. At the same time, you won’t have to pass up on the city life, as Tours is only 20 minutes' drive away. As for shops and eateries on a smaller scale, the centre of the local village is under 10 minutes’ walk away. Thanks to the site's central location, you’ll be well-based for both cultural and sporting activities… so some of your excursions might include castles, animal parks and leisure parks. Wine aficionados will be happy to find that as well as all of those vineyards around the region, the site has one of its own. You’ll also be able to get your hands on a rented bicycle at the site, a simple way to whizz off and familiarise yourself with all the local sights.

  • This is a quiet site: no music is allowed.

  • No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.
  • The site caters for families (immediate members) and couples only - bookings from all other forms of groups are not accepted.
  • A cable measuring at least 5 metres is needed for the electric hook-ups.
  • The outdoor swimming pool is open between 01/05 and 12/09 (subject to weather conditions).
  • Pitches with private bathroom amenities: a €250 deposit is required on arrival and will be refunded on departure after inspection should no damage/losses be found.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Clean. Good size pitches. Well maintained. Good facilities, especially for children. Small animal farm.

Disliked The owner/manager who introduced himself as ‘the boss’.

Shortly after we arrived we took a stroll around the site. He approached us and said ‘this is private’. We told him we were staying there. I then told him that I didn’t appreciate the way he approached us. He could have simply asked if we were guests. As we were walking away, he then got annoyed and followed us and asked what our pitch number was and if we were not happy then we could leave. Fair enough, but this was at about 9pm so where could we go. He said it was for our own safety, which I absolutely understand and appreciate, but it was the confrontational way that he approached us that was not appropriate.

From the manager: MADAME, c'est de nouveau le patron qui vous parle, tout d'abord vous êtes arrivée à 20h25 gentillement accueilli par mon fils, alors que la réception aurait dû être fermée depuis 20 heures, sachez que vous auriez pû ne pas rentrer dans le camping si la réception avait fermée à l'heure n'ayant même pas prévenu plus tôt dans la journée par téléphone de l'heure de votre arrivée tardive. Donc, ne vous ayant pas vue ni identifier à votre passage à la réception, il était compliqué de savoir si vous étiez du camping ou non. Si vous n'accepter pas les contrôles j'en suis désolé, si vous ne m'aviez pas fait une mauvaise remarque en partant je ne serai pas revenu vers vous, vous disans de partir si vous n'étiez pas contente, nous sommes situé à côté d'un restaurant populaire ou beaucoup de personne se balade le soir et sont tentées de venir se balader dans le camping, d'ou nos interventions pour protéger vos biens. Pour finir, je ne retiendrai qu'une chose, c'est que le camping dont je suis le patron, propose de beaux emplacements, et que c'est propre.

Liked Lovely quiet site, with fabulous washing facilities. Extremely friendly staff, lovely little animals on site goats and a llama. A nice little pool with plenty of seating. Fabulous large screen for matches

Liked Lovely and quiet by the river (launched our kayak for a lovely cruise on the river). Shady spacious pitches. Great facilities, friendly staff. Enjoyed watching the football World Cup on the big screen tv. Great frites from the snack shack! Enjoyed the pool in this hot weather. Great base to tour the region.

Liked Very friendly and welcoming staff. We were able to choose our pitch was watch very helpful due to the heatwave and finding a shady pitch. The pool was very clean with plenty of sun beds and shade. The bar for the evening was a nice addition. Very clean facilities. One block under renovation but still enough for everyone. Washing machine and hand wash facilities available. Very short walk to a nice town and easy access to the river. Would highly recommend and will definitely stay again.

Sometimes you just want to stick close to your nest and that’s more than okay here… Montbazon (10 minutes’ walk) has a small fortress and it’s the gateway to a fair few walks, including the riverside Indre à Vélo route and The Way of Saint James. A simple car or bike ride can go a long way too, whether that's over to the Arboretum de la Martinière (10 minutes’ drive), laser games at Laser Game Evolution Tours (15 minutes), the family-friendly rides at Lulu Parc (20 minutes), the Château de Candé (10 minutes) or canoeing and kayaking on the Val de l'Indre (five minutes). Of course, there's a whole league of castles around too, especially the splendid Château de Villandry (25 minutes). There's no shortage of bicycle rentals and bike tours either (or the more unusual go-kart tours) and it’s no surprise when you consider all the beauty spots in the Loire Valley. Where to whisk out the wheels? Perhaps the Cave of Goupillières (25 minutes) for a Touraine cavern? Amboise (40 minutes) for castles and Da Vinci’s former home? While hiking and biking stick to the ground, you’ll take on the treetops on the obstacle courses at Gadawi Park (15 minutes). As for animals, there’s the Safari Train (40 minutes) and ZooParc de Beauval (50 minutes).
