  • Peaceful Brittany riverside site in the Huelgoat Forest
  • Valley of the Saints 15 minutes' drive; an hour to Brest or Quimper
  • Heated pool, hot tub, sauna and bar-restaurant on site
A central Brittany location is a sensible choice if you're hoping to see as much as possible of this fabulous area… and that's exactly what you'll get when you stay at Camping La Rivière d’Argent. As the name suggests, this friendly site is on the banks of the Rivière d’Argent, so it has easy access to riverside walks and fishing. It's also surrounded by woodland walks and bike trails through the Huelgoat Forest – and that all adds up to a lovely peaceful setting for a nature-focused break. Kayaking, horse riding and rock climbing are among the activities nearby – and you’ll also be able to throw in extras like surfing and sailing if you head to the coast, about half an hour's drive away. This is a great area for heritage tours too, with traditional villages and historic monuments to explore. Whichever outing option you got for, you’ll be able to take a nice swim in the heated indoor pool when you get back to the site. You can also book sessions in the site's hot tub and sauna to help you unwind – perhaps while your other half takes the kids to the play area to bounce on the trampoline and bouncy castle? Other facilities at this site include a games room and a pétanque court, plus bike hire to help you explore the area. The bar-restaurant serves up local dishes and drinks, and provides live music and other entertainment on selected summer evenings. Bread and pastries are delivered every morning for a tasty breakfast as well.

Local attractions

There are lots of great options around for a walk or bike ride – set off into the forest, wander along the riverbank or explore the wild landscapes of the Monts d’Arrée area. Along the way, look out for ancient sights like the Menhir de Kerampeulven (10 minutes' drive) and Mougau-Bihan gallery grave (25 minutes). Little local villages like Huelgoat and Berrien (both five minutes) will allow you to dip into a different aspect of local heritage. And for a different take on rural walks, how about a stroll through the sculptures at the Valley of the Saints (15 minutes)? Of course you could also take off to the coast for a walk, or a bit of beach time and some surfing. The area around Crozon (an hour) is particularly lovely for a walk, or you could centre your coast time around places like Brest, Quimper or Concarneau (all around an hour away). Morlaix (half an hour) is also worth a trip for its art, heritage and estuary views.
