Up for a trip to Normandy for a soothing getaway at Camping de la Vée…? Oui oui…? It’s certainly a très fantastique choice: the site’s in an excellent location 1.5 kilometres from the centre of the thermal spa town of Bagnoles-de-l’Orne with a bus stopping just outside the front gates to shuttle you over to the hot springs for some wellness-focused whiling.
Submerge yourself in the water in this swish settlement or – if decadent dips in dreamy pools aren’t really for you – indulge your inner high roller at the local casino and racecourse. Under a 10-minute drive from the park are a host of other things to do too: think miniature golf and tennis along with horse riding through the lush countryside of the Normandie-Maine Regional Nature Park surrounds…
Back on site, seek sustenance at the snack bar – perhaps something French à la moules et frites to get you into the swing of all things Gallic? – or roam over to reception after 9am for baked goods (just make sure to preorder the day before). Munch on croissants while updating your social media feed using the free wifi or invest an ice cream at the essentials shop (oui, ice cream is an essential) then head off to explore the rest of the Camping de la Vée's grounds.
During an amble you might stumble across facilities such as pétanque, table tennis and kids’ games, as well as a TV room with a library for digging out a new novel to crack open while steaming in the sun after a spa session…

Local attractions
There’s more to Bagnoles-de-l’Orne than just hot baths: it’s also got trails to cycle along and a lake with pedalo and rowing boat hire. A nine-hole golf course is close by too and the town’s Vélo Rail takes tourists on leafy journeys through the Andaines forest…
For a larger lake, get over to La Ferté-Macé (just over 10 minutes’ drive from Camping de la Vée) and take on energetic activities such as windsurfing and canoeing along with more sedate pursuits like fishing; a climbing wall, volleyball and boules are here as well plus a walking trail around the water’s edges for some seriously low-key afternoons.
Excited by all things equestrian? La Michaudière is under 15 minutes’ away, a draft horse farm with dressage shows performed by beasts of burden.
