Well now, this is a watery place. Camping Les Vernières is set along the Dordogne river in La Bourboule, about a kilometre and a half from a lake in which to dip one's toes, and – billy bonus – with an aqua park right on site where damp (and warmth) seekers will find a whirlpool bath, a sun terrace, a slide, a hammam and a sauna (subject to entrance fee).
On site, sports and leisure seekers have a sports court, ping pong, table tennis, table football, and a heated swimming pool open from mid-May to mid-September, while kids can whizz around the playground, trampoline and bouncy castle.
Events are organised throughout high season, such as theme nights, live music and karaoke – and you won't have to miss major sports events either as they'll be screened on site.
Les Vernières also has a snack bar serving fast food, bread and pastries.
