Entrance to the site

  • Spacious site on the outskirts of Oloron-Sainte-Marie
  • 20 minutes' drive from the Pyrenees National Park
  • Shuttle bus connecting the site to town centre amenities
Could this be the best of both worlds? Turn one way out of Camping Pyrénées Nature and acres of mountainous countryside await; turn the other way and you’ll note that you’re on the outskirts of Oloron-Sainte-Marie for handy access to shops, restaurants and the like (even handier, a free shuttle bus will whisk you to and from the town centre to save your legs). Thus can you spend your days out in the open air – hiking, mountain biking, rafting, canyoning or skiing your way around the gorgeous surrounds – before returning to town for your choice of eats, drinks and nightlife. Of course, you may prefer just to hang around on site to deal with your own dinner. No probs – pick up the necessaries at the site’s mini market and settle in at one of the picnic tables provided (lighting up a barbie to grill on too if you wish). As well as the playground, there’s also plenty of space around this three-hectare site for the kids to charge around. More organised games can be staged over at the multisports court, volleyball court or pétanque court. Toilet blocks at Camping Pyrénées Nature have facilities for guests with reduced mobility and are heated through the chillier months.

What customers say

This is a clean, peaceful, and spacious campsite with large pitches, many offering mountain views. It's praised for its welcoming and helpful staff, convenient location within walking distance of shops and restaurants, and good value. While most facilities are well-maintained, some guests found the unisex toilet blocks and limited open facilities to be less ideal. The site is open all year and well-suited for exploring the surrounding area.

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked It is a lovely quiet, spacious site with big pitches marked out with low hedges. There are lots of shady trees, and some pitches have views of the Pyrenees too. The toilets are well maintained and clean, but bring your own soap. Big shops like Lidl and Aldi are on the edge of Oloron.

Disliked No soap in the toilets.

Electric optional grass pitch

Electric optional grass pitch

Electric optional grass pitch

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked Location is away from major roads, so there is not a lot of traffic noise.

Friendly and helpful staff.

Option to order boulangerie items for breakfast.

Disliked Very little privacy compared to usa public camping areas. Way too much light shining on our tent, making it hard to sleep.

No TP, or soap provided, but I don't recall whether this camp had toilet seats

From the name, we expected this area to be in a higher altitude, wilder setting, but not so.

Local attractions

As well as a handy spot for urban amenities, Oloron-Sainte-Marie merits some time spent wandering through its historic centre. Start at the gothic Sainte-Marie Cathedral to see its ornate 12th-century entrance, then climb the Tour de Grede to walk along the town’s ramparts for some great views. It’s likely, though, that you’ll want to be spending much of your time here out in the open air. The Pyrenees National Park is about a 20-minute drive away, and there are heaps of hiking and mountain bike trails around the Aspe, Baretous and Ossau valleys as well. Cool off afterwards at Aqua Béarn, a vast waterpark 20 minute away with waterslides, bumper boats and a wave pool (plus plenty of space to relax or sunbathe). Thrill-seekers should head to the watersports centre in Oloron-Sainte-Marie to sign up for rafting and kayaking trips on the Gave d'Aspe and Gave D’Oloron rivers, take a trip to Escot (20 minutes’ drive) for canyoning, or board the shuttle to La Pierre Saint Martin, 45 minutes away, for skiing.
