General

  • On the banks of the Dordogne river
  • Direct access to a riverside beach
  • Pool surrounded by spacious deck area with sun loungers

If you're a holiday bragging sort (and of course you are; that's why the likes of Facebook are so ubiquitous), you'll like the boasting opps available with a stay at Camping Le Pont de Vicq, near the commune of Le Buisson-de-Cadouin in the Dordogne.

Pourquoi? Because you'll be able to airily answer enquiries regarding what you did on your holidays with a breezy 'Oh, just pitched up by the banks of the Dordogne' (and be sure to add a nonchalant 'Doncha know?' for good measure).

This is riverside camping, right on the left bank of the river and with access to a riverside beach for sunbathing and dipping: be sure and get the direct beach access into your holiday gloat too...

Other envy can be induced by the fact that the kids can be kept nicely busy on a stay here, whether they're splashing about in the river (that's the Dordogne), wheeling around the playground, bouncing to and fro on the trampoline or making new pals at the kids' club in high season.

The site also has a big pool and a paddling pool, both surrounded by a spacious deck area set up with sun loungers; a snack bar for drinks and light bites, and a shop stocked with local products, bread and other essentials.

Amenities (because even boastful hols must involve practicalities) include a laundry room with washing machines, a washing-up area, and three toilet blocks with free hot showers, spacious toilet cubicles and disabled facilities.

Please note

The outdoor swimming pool is open between 01/06 and 30/09 (subject to weather conditions).

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

Excellent, quiet site, with good access to river bank and town. 14/08/2017

Pretty much everything - the river bank was unanimously a huge improvement over a beach and the sea, the campsite was very relaxing, and the staff helpful. The village being such a short walk away was also a big plus. All facilities were at the very least adequate, and more than met our needs, and, as well as the local town, there were two big supermarkets a short drive away.

    Disliked:

A larger on-site shop would have been nice, and the electrical points were rather sparse (we had to borrow an extension, as our 10 metre one wasn't enough).

Some of the borders between pitches could have been more substantial, but that suited us anyway, as we had two adjacent pitches.

For my daughter, the wifi could have been stronger at remote pitches, but it was free and that's the camping life.

The fairly busy road was presumably noisy if you were on one of the pitches near it.

River is lovely, staff friendly. Site is clean and well kept- as are bathroom facilities. Pitches are separated by hedges so some privacy. Canoe hire available right next to campsite.

    Disliked:

Prices in camp shop, bar, restaurant a little high but you're paying for convenience.

Local attractions

As you'll loftily inform everyone in the office/on your Facebook page, the Dordogne is filled with highly impressive attractions one could mosey around for several months.

You could make for the Maxange caves, the lush landscapes of the Périgord-Limousin Regional Nature Park, the medieval town of Rochechouart or les châteaux of Châlus, Brie and Montbrun…And of course the Dordogne river, and have you showed everyone your snaps of your riverside stay?

The area's also exceedingly popular for outdoorsy and nature-based activities, from canoeing and kayaking down the Dordogne and Vezère rivers and the watersports of Gurson Lake, to horse riding at La Jumenterie and golfing at Vigiers Château.

Another famed destination in the Dordogne is the small medieval village of Cadouin with its 12th-century abbey where torchlight guided tours take place daily. If you're around with les enfants, the Touron Animal Farm is a good option for a family day out.
